Their bullpen has been fantastic since acquiring Street and shipping Ernesto off for Grilli. Calhoun, Trout, Pujols, Hamilton and Kendrick can scare you just as much as the Tigers' lineup when clicking. And nobody is fearing the A's lineup right now.

I think of it the other way. Nobody is talking about them. All the talk is on the Tigers and A's. But I wouldn't want to face this team in a series having to face Weaver and Richards twice each. I have no problem with Santiago and Shoemaker. 2 very serviceable pitchers.
Realistically...Verlander doesn't scare me right now and I don't care who is pitching for the A's because their offense isn't good at all. I'd take the Angels over the A's if their offense doesn't improve. And I'm not talking about facing Twins pitching.

Yea, that's the interesting thing. If you're going for a 1 game playoff...give me the Mariners over any team in the hunt. But give me a series and I'll change my tune. Hell...give me the Indians in a 1 game playoff too. Kluber is no joke.

Oakland scores most runs per game and has the best run differential by a WIDE margin. Our pitching staff is so good that we don't need to score 8 runs a game to win.

Trust me. I was the first person to hype A's v Tigers in the ALCS after the trade deadline. But that winning percentage without Cespedes is alarming. And ever since he was traded they have been struggling. Is it the loss of him? Is it because they were without Crisp and he's just coming back? I'm not sure. Only time will tell but I will only judge their offensive production from the post-Cespedes era on. I get that you're a fan but you cannot say that you can expect to keep up with having the best run differential in baseball after that trade. Since the trade you're averaging 3.6 runs per game and having followed the A's like I have, they scored 8 runs in an inning against a tiring Vargas making his first start since his appendectomy and parlayed that with poor fielding. Then they scored 9 against the Twins' combo of May and Deduno who walked 10 in 5 innings.

It is all honestly a crap shoot. It has proven over the past few years, get in and anything can happen. I will say though, in the National League I am pulling for the Pirates or Brewers.

I agree with this. Even the "favorites" are the A's at PLUS money. I just don't think it's a 2 horse race like it was talked about at the trade deadline. If the playoffs started today I wouldn't feel comfortable with any team but I would love watching every series.

Angels right now have no offense, and are almost worst at scoring runs since All-Star Game. (They were best before). This is a funk they should get out of soon.

while they have the tools this year, their playoff record is appalling, winning games in the regular season is one thing, winning playoff games is at another level and there aren't many in the A's dugout with that experience.

I don't bet futures because I have having my money tied up for that long and the return isn't enough for me. Futures like that have to be +1000 or more for me to really take a shot at. There is no denying that your rotation is great. But when you're in the playoffs, all you need is to match up with a 2 solid starters and 2 average starters who may have a good night. Like I said, I need to see more of that offense to be sold. Yes, I'm a Yankee fan which means I know what happens when you face good pitching. It makes great offensive terrible and, in your case, it could make average hitting horrible. Your pitching can keep you in any ballgame. The question is...can they win you a series? We'll see.
You mention Randy/Curt and Beckett/DTrain. Well...if Richards is still pitching like this then Weaver/Richards could be those guys to you. As could Scherzer/Price.
We agree, however, that this will be a great postseason. Every potential matchup and wild card game in both leagues would be awesome.

Pitching wins championships. You should know as a Yankees fan. All the recent WS that the Yankees have lost have been due to dominant pitching shutting down the Yankees' great offense. Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling shut down NY for Arizona. Josh Beckett and Dontrelle Willis were unhittable vs the Yanks when they played for the Marlins.
The A's have all the tools and are primed for a World Series run this year. The Tigers may not get past the Wild Card game or vs Baltimore in the 1st round. I will agree with you on the Dodgers, though. Kershaw is absolutely dominant this year. This is going to be a great playoffs!!!

There is no denying that your rotation is great. But when you're in the playoffs, all you need is to match up with a 2 solid starters and 2 average starters who may have a good night. Like I said, I need to see more of that offense to be sold. Yes, I'm a Yankee fan which means I know what happens when you face good pitching. It makes great offensive terrible and, in your case, it could make average hitting horrible. Your pitching can keep you in any ballgame. The question is...can they win you a series? We'll see.
You mention Randy/Curt and Beckett/DTrain. Well...if Richards is still pitching like this then Weaver/Richards could be those guys to you. As could Scherzer/Price.
We agree, however, that this will be a great postseason. Every potential matchup and wild card game in both leagues would be awesome.
And the A's proved last night that their offense can't be trusted. Vargas is better than Guthrie/Chen...but he's not elite and you can't just get shut out by him like that.
But, as I'm supporting the Angels, I guess I can't say too much because they couldn't score against Jerome Williams and AJ Burnett. However, they get more leeway because their track record is far better.
