Guys i never cease to be amazed by the stupidity of the BBWAA cult as well as the bloggers. There's a writer named Craig Calcaterra he writes for hardballtalk which is like profootballtalk that's owned by NBC. Here is what Mr.Sabermetric geek i mean Mr.Calcaterra wrote:
"So manager's challenges will be a part of replay in 2015 which we've said countless times is dumb. Dumb and to date never justified publicly by MLB"
I would say to Mr.C that dumb is better described to people who voted for Mike Trout for MVP over Miguel Cabrera when Miggy won the triple crown but that's for another day. i also on tv heard veteran MLB writer Mel Antonen say "Replay in baseball doesn't work" I never cease to be amazed
Now keyelement gets on my case because i present my opinions as facts. So i will bring you the facts about LY"s instant replay system in MLB. I found a site that gives you stats about everything that involves replay and i do mean everything, Facts:
There were 1274 Challenges/reviews and calls were overturned 47% of the time and about 600 calls that were wrong LY were made right. {They don't give you the exact number they didn't have it available} So MLB games had 600 wrong calls made right. yeah we just have to eliminate replay because we can't have calls be right
Look the system isn't perfect. There are some tweaks that have to be made. Here are my ideas and i had these LY as well:
1. Either put a 5th umpire in a replay booth to be the "Replay Umpire" He can be a retired umpire who can't work the field or you can develop replay umpires whatever you like
2. If you don't want to go that route and keep the replay room in New York City then lets have 1 replay umpire following 1 game. So if we have 15 games on a Sunday there are 15 replay umpires who just follow 1 game each. And when there's a close play they are watching the game and if it is challenged/reviewed they have already looked at the play and could say"You got it right or You blew the call which would cut down on some time on reviews"
3. Mr Calcaterra doesn't like replay challenges i do. My problem is for example in 1 game this year Brad Ausmus challenged twice won both challenges and so that's it no more challenges. Why? Why can't have a 3rd,4th,18th etc? If he keeps winning challenges he should get to keep the challenge. Now i understand some will say "packers what if Ausmus challenges 18 times in a game?" And i'd say well the umpires need to start getting the calls right
Because their incompitence is why we're in this mess
I never had an issue with managers looking into the dugout to get thumbs up or thumbs down on the review. hell in football you can look at the video board to determine if you should challenge so why not in MLB?
Look i'll wrap this up guys by saying the following. Is instant replay in MLB perfect? No it has some bugs that have to be worked out and it needs to be tweaked and IMO MLB needs to spend some of this money they brag about to train people to be replay umpires. But at least 600 calls were made right LY. You reading this probably won at least 1 MLB bet LY because of an overturned call for your side or against it. Who wants to see the next Don Dekinnger? Or Jim Joyce? We're getting calls right. Either evolve with it or get lost in the shuffle because this train will move with you or without you
If you want me to put on here Umpire, manager and team replay success let me know and i'll post it next week. But for now your thoughts guys?
