Which, at approximately 6 months per season is 900 months, this current month will be the FIRST EVER that ends with more strikeouts than hits. And that’s certainly not because there’s great pitching. Think about that...This is how bad this game has become, littered with sub .200 hitters on every roster swinging for the fences. And yet, you people continue to throw your cash away on these, at best, Single-A players.

So that’s what’s causing this...the effect of launch trajectory swings? And all this time I thought it was bad players. You’re right though, you’re not a rookie, just a fukkin idiot.

They’re hitting all these HR’s because they’re hitting a Titleist. I’m hardly surprised that you don’t realize that. How long have you been following MLB?

How much insight do you need? I think I made it perfectly clear that these are bad players that in spite of having the opportunity to hit a Titleist strike out more than they get hits. Sub .200 hitters have no place in the majors. Comprendo? Is that clear? Reading Comprehension 101 is probably a course you want to look into....

Who the Fak Cares... CFB & NFL went from pro style offenses to spread concepts...Rarely do you see a team run the ball 30 -40 times a game and play defense and win 10-3.... The NBA has gone to a 3 & D league and pretty much eliminated the Center position and the best teams in the league shoot the most 3 pointers....Sports are evolving and If hitting for singles and bunting runners over is the way to go then it will work itself out more teams would be doing right? Not some idiot on covers telling everyone how bad the game has become..

Whether it is E-volution or De-volution is up to the individual. To many of us old timers the game is not nearly as tough or dramatic as in another age. To most of today’s (and tomorrows) fans, those of the 30 second attention span that want instant gratification, it is a better game. Amen. So be it. There will never be an argument that convinces either side to change its mindset.
It is however a crying shame that today’s ADHD fans will someday claim today’s players are much better than in the past, because of all the offensive records that will fall in this era. Nothing could be further from the truth. The offensive game has been built for and around the fans, not the players.
It is no longer a war between the pitcher and hitter because ownership does not want a Judge or Stanton threatened with injury. So, you have 10 lbs. of protective gear and no throwing inside. No brushing the hitter off the plate. God doom you to Hades if you don’t give the hitter every possible chance to crush the jackrabbit ball they are now using.
The four greatest players of my youth; Mickey, Willie, Stan and Ted would be unreal in today’s game. If you need the last names of those guys you are lacking in historical knowledge of the game and really have no business judging anything.
I wonder if Barry Baby now regrets the ‘roids that made his gonads disappear and excluded him from the HOF; now that he knows his records will also disappear, probably in his life time. Yeah, the owners figured it all out for you ADHD types; since they can’t juice the players anymore just juice up the ball!
Anyway, it is an argument without solution, LogCottage, and you may as well give it up.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

Analytics is playing a bigger role than ever in the sport, and the analytics say that the higher on base percentage coupled with the higher slugging (that comes from hitting more homeruns even at the expense of strikeouts) is a superior method of scoring runs - which after all is the ultimate goal.
Just a one of several examples of a situation you'd rather have someone swinging for a double or homerun even if it comes with a higher probability of striking out: You have a below average speed runner on first and one out, and then you have a guy with decent power at the plate with another guy with pop on deck. You're trailing by one late in the 8th inning. Hitter is in a 2-1 count. Do you want him to try to swing for contact or hit the ball hard with some trajectory? How many times in the old days, hitting for contact would have resulted in an inning ending double play. Even if this guy strikes out, you have one more opportunity to take the lead or tie with the next guy up.
You attack hitter's counts, you try to hit the pitch you like hard with authority, if you don't get pitches you like you try to get on base. That to me is smart baseball.

So runs aren't down. Home runs are up but so are strike outs. And you chalk it up to all of a sudden, "after 149 years" players are just bad? And i'm the idiot? Do you even really watch and handicap baseball? Or are you some old fart that chalks up everything to "good/bad"? Are there more home runs because these "bad" players have gotten just gotten stronger? What, did you just read some stat about strike outs being at a record pace and all of a sudden your an analyst?

You sound like an old codger. With all this insight and analysis offered to you, you're sticking with, "Nope, the players are just bad and that's it and that's all." "Back in my day Ty Cobb batted for the cycle TWICE in one game! And he went in the stands and sold peanuts during the 7th inning stretch. Now THAT was a ball player."
I'm the idiot because i'm talking about swing trajectories but you've got it all figured out. Players are just all of a sudden bad and home runs are up because they get to use golf balls now.

Boohoo you lost a couple dollars gambling on a game you clearly know nothing about. Honestly, I'm pissed I wasted my time reading and commenting on this useless thread. The context in which you type makes me want to punch something...preferably that cock warmer you call a mouth.

This thread was intended for adults who have actually witnessed MLB, not you clueless kids who think this crap you've been watching is of major league quality. Feel free to start your own threads discussing launch angles and exit velocity and all other things related to the NASA space program.

I understand te point you are try to make, and for teams like the Yankees and Braves the combination of obp/HR is working fine, but; overall obp is not up this year and supposedly good teams, like the Indians, Rockies and Brewers are paying a very serious price for it. The Yankees have, and always will, a very deep treasury to build around offense, and the Braves have paid the price the last few years for rebuilding and now can afford the obp/HR combination you like. Overall it will not work for everyone because everyone cannot afford it. The Rays recent streak was ALL obp, as they are one of the worst HR teams. MOST teams actually should follow the concept because they cannot compete for a lineup full of heavy hitters with the treasuries they have. To tell mid-range talent to ignore strikeouts and swing for the fences is dusaster. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.
