Hi my friends! I want to thank those of you that stopped by yesterday's thread with your kind comments. I read them all and I really do appreciate you. I only hope that you feel the same way about me when I post an inevitable L. I mean, I can't win em all..... or can I
I approached this game looking for angles to support a case for the Mets. Unfortunately, the only angle I could come up with is NY has been in comeback mode for 2 months. And when I think about that, I wonder how many holes can they dig before they get buried?
There are plenty of ways NY can win tonight. However, the most plausible would be for Quintana to pitch well for 7+ innings and then get the ball to Diaz, without having to rely on the rest of the pen for much. While this could happen, it isn't likely. In 31 starts, Quintana is averaging 5.4 innings and has pitched through the 7th just five times. So, where are the Mets going to get 8-9 outs from before they hand the ball to Diaz? I don't know, but if I were on the Mets, I would be very concerned about this.
Keep in mind, those 8-9 outs assume Quintana gets through the 5th. When I look at LA's career stats against, I'm not fully convinced he will. In a 154 ABs, they're slashing 299 AVG/368 OBP/481 SLG/849 OPS. It's also worth noting that Quintana's 2024 xFIP is 4.56. I was surprised to find it so high. This would indicate he benefited from great defense and of course, some good fortune.
The 2nd most likely way the Mets can win tonight is for Yamamoto to pitch poorly. In a previous write-up, I discussed his advanced metrics. They suggest he's one of the best pitchers in the game, who keeps the ball on the ground, and has elite command. I think I'll take my chances that he pitches to his ability. If he doesn't, then the Dodgers can turn to the biggest advantage they have, their 4th ranked bullpen.
The Mets are a scrappy, likeable team. However, the cream always rises. I believe Yamamoto and the Dodgers will be too much for them tonight.
Heading back to the well. I have the Dodgers taking a 3-1 series lead. I'm on them at -131
Cheers and BOL
P.S. I have no play on the NY/Clev game. It should be a good one though
