Is it my imagination or are more and more teams making starting pitcher announcements late in the day, very close to first pitch, more often than in the past?
I listed Blackburn with the A's yesterday about 2.5 hours before game time. They ended up starting Pruitt instead. Totally F'd me up. My bet on Red Sox was a push because I didn't notice this and I listed both pitchers.
I also noticed the Dodgers did not name a starting pitcher until very close to first pitch yesterday too.
Anybody know what kind of rules MLB has on this? Seems like it's worse this year in the past. Frustrating.

I understand the difference between action and listed.
My question is, what are the rules on a team's ability to change starting pitchers at the last minute?
It seems like it could be an advantage to tell the other team you'll be facing this pitcher... they study film on that starter all day... and then you do a rug pull and start another pitcher that they have not been reviewing film on all day.
It feels like this is happening way more this year than it what we saw in the past.

It has a lot to do with the fact that teams use openers now. In a lot of situations, when the team knows one of its starters is for sure NOT pitching in its normal rotation..........then the team in some cases is deciding between another starter who may or may not be ready, or which opener they are gonna use.
Also, idk what site you are using for lineups and pitcher confirmations, but Rotowire had Vesia listed for the Dodgers way before the first pitch.
Also just curious what bet could you have made on the Sox that pushed yesterday? They won F5 and FG bets. ML and RL. Adjusted RL....everything. Got out to a 9-1 lead, game never even close.
Anyway.....it's not your imagination......it is definitely happening more because the team has a bunch of relievers they are deciding on based on the first 3 batters they think they're gonna see. It's just a chess game.
Best advice to you is just pass on the bet when this happens unless you feel like the SPs don't matter and there is value regardless.........no bet is the best bet in many cases. Don't let it give you any worry......there will be another 10 or so games to bet on the following day.

I listed Blackburn yesterday for the A's about 2.5 hours before first pitch. I didn't even notice when the game started that Blackurn wasn't pitching. Thought I had a winner until this morning when I started filling out my spreadsheet. My bet was against Blackburn and Pruitt did not trigger a betting situation for me. Still frustrating.
I think I will start printing out a listing of the starting pitchers for the day and compare it to scores and odds several times a day to check for changes.
Is what you are saying kind of similar to what the Rays started in 2018 & 2019? Bull pen games? Prior to the Rays, I don't think there was such a thing as a bullpen game.

Ohhhhhhhhh gotcha........you had the listed pitchers as part of the bet.............my bad..........that blows, I have made that mistake before.
I usually switch it to action.......UNLESS is it a larger moneyline parlay with 2 huge chalks.........then it matters more to me.
Rotowire has them pretty early, like right now they even have a confirmed lineup for a game at 2:10. They also have a little black sign next to the pitcher that says "PRIM" which means that is the primary pitcher, but is not starting the game. The Tigers for example are expected to use an opener today, then Reese Olson will take over.

It's just stupid. Today, the royals are listing a guy on 1 day of rest. Maybe it's a bullpen game or maybe they'll take him down between now and first pitch and list another starter. Toss up.

it is stupid, I agree, but its just another way for the bookies to make it harder on us.
That royals game I was considering for a ML parlay, since Bieber is pitching, I haven't decided yet, might add the Red Sox or the Rangers to it and throw half a unit on it.
Cleveland/Sox ML parlay is +130. Cleveland/Texas ML parlay is +120.
IDK......will see....
