Besides losing some velocity on the fastball, he has lost control of it. His two seamer is running all over the place. When you can't hit your spots, it's irrelevant how hard you throw at that level. I've watched most of his starts, and the one thing that is killing him more than anything this year is his lack of location. He is still right at the top of the NL in strikeouts because his offspeed stuff is sick, but the ERA is up because he's lost some of his control.

He was never throwing 96-98. He might have touched those occasionally but he was never throwing at that speed.
average Fastball speed
2007: 93.6 2008: 94.0 2009: 92.4 2010: 91.2
He has seen his velocity drop and that can be a reason for his struggles. The rest of his pitches are pretty near what they have been for his previous years, velocity wise.
His problem might be that his change up is sitting around 84 mph instead of 83, this year, and the difference between the changeup and fastball is not as great in velocity as it has been in years past.
Use to have a 10mph difference in the changeup, which is great, but this year only a 7mph difference.
Like Oswalt, I wonder if relative lack of size is a factor?

Not the same guy all around ! When he does try to throw it with velocity he has no control ! Not one of the elite pitchers this year that is for sure !

I started this thread cause there has been little said about Lincecum's demise this year. This guy jpero picks a fight with me. Fuk his ass.
This isnt a fan board. I think they have a separate forum for that stuff. People in here only care if Lincecum is going to cover in his next start. Thats all anyone should be concerned about in the Gambling section of these forums.
I dont really think he picked a fight with you. Lets break it down:
- You posted that Lincecum has lost MPH off his fastball - true - You posted that Lincecum used to be able to get it to the plate at 96-98 MPH all game - which is not true
All JPero did was come in and drop some facts - with a link to a credible web site - to let you know that your perception that he used to throw 96-98 all game was in fact a faulty statement.
He also said that, yes, Lincecum has lost some velocity, but its not the amount you state because he could never hit that consistently.
I think we are being a little childish and immature. None of what he said was personal. The guy comes with facts to support and argument that was better than yours. I dont see a problem with that.

he is probably the pitcher that I like to watch the most in the entire mlb...
but something wrong with this guys this year... Is it his big salary ?? his new sponsor /endorsement??... ( like red bull)
I hate to see him play like he did this year... I can't remember a strong performance of him this season... I think he has only 1 complete game also this year...
I just hope that he wont do like many others pitchers did when they finally got their big salary and start to pitch like a moron and have a season record of 10-11 with and ERA over 4....

According to jpero he's the only one with a reliable radar gun and the ball parks going it wrong. OK, then still if Lince wasn't throwing high ninetys as to guns said, then he's not throwing 90-91 as the stadium guns now tell us. Either way he's lost a lot of velocity. That's my point. jepero is a pedantic twit.

It's pretty advanced stuff so no worries if you don't get some of the the stats but it gets explained. And here's all of his advanced stats if you really wanna know what percentage of hitters are swinging and missing or what percentage of pitches are off-speed instead of saying it "looks" or "seems" like:

There are at least 2 posts where jpero said that he DIDlose velocity. He just didn't lose as much as you claim he did. I don't understand what YOU don't understand about that.
