Gerrit Cole (R) (3-2, 5.40 ERA) will go for the Yankees while the Blue Jays will send rookie Yariel Rodriguez ((R) 1-4, 4.31) to the mound in a matchup of right-handers.

Cole is starting for the first time since allowing six runs on eight hits, including three homers, over 5 2/3 innings of a 12-3 home loss to the New York Mets on July 24. He is 9-2 with a 2.73 ERA in 17 career starts against the Blue Jays and held them to one run on three hits in five innings June 30 in Toronto.

Rodriguez will make his 11th career start, and the Blue Jays hope it lasts longer than the first game of Monday's doubleheader in Baltimore, when he allowed four runs on four walks and one hit while getting only two outs and throwing 43 pitches.

Before struggling against the Orioles, Rodriguez was 1-1 with a 2.01 ERA in his previous four outings.

Rodriguez, who is allowing opponents to bat .214 this season, will face the Yankees for the first time.

Sunday's series finale will feature a matchup of All-Star right-handers in the Phillies' Zack Wheeler (R) (10-5, 2.94 ERA) and the Mariners' Logan Gilbert (R) (6-7, 3.11).

Both Wheeler and Gilbert will try to bounce back from rough starts on Monday.

Wheeler allowed seven runs on seven hits -- including three homers -- over five innings in a 14-4 loss to the visiting New York Yankees. Gilbert gave up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings of a 14-7 defeat at Boston.

Wheeler will face the Mariners for the first time in his 10-year career. Gilbert is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in two starts against the Phillies.

The Oakland Athletics will get an opportunity to exact revenge in the wake of a humiliating defeat when they close a three-game interleague series against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon.

With a season-high 35,207 in attendance -- the bulk of them Dodgers fans -- the A's watched Saturday night as Los Angeles turned a tight contest into a blowout with two runs in the eighth and a six-run ninth inning in what became a 10-0 laugher.

The Dodgers' River Ryan (R) (1-0, 0.82 ERA) has been brilliant since his initial call-up last month.

 Ryan's rival will be Osvaldo Bido (R) (2-2, 5.00 ERA), a fellow PCL alum who also has enjoyed some success after an in-season promotion from Triple-A Las Vegas. 

Neither starting pitcher has faced Sunday's opponent.
