Season, 33-32-11 - + $1,217.34 - +5.6% RoR [versus average line of +103]
5/25 - $337 each – flat bets - [3% of bankroll, 10,000 +/- profit/loss]
F5 – No Play Yet
Comment: Said I would comment on John Means today or before his next start so here it is. He looked good yesterday, a bit of a return toward his former status. If there are no rumors or reasons to doubt, and the odds are right, I might go with him next outing.
Comment: Some boys on the board yesterday thought the Padres were the play of the day. Hot team, nine wins in a row. As, and after, they lost, there was a little complaining about the lineup, then the subject was dropped in favor of picking on Snell. I guess it was his fault (or the lineup) that Brandon Woodruff nailed the Padres flat to the floor. Not a word of mention about him. I guess 7 innings with 8 K’s, 0 walks, 0 runs, only 3 hits, is not impressive enough to be mentioned.
Another striking performance was Ross Stripling versus the Rays. 7 innings, 7 K’s, 2 walks and no runs. That is the kind of stuff that does not jump out of a 14-8 trouncing, but it has a definite effect on future probability.

To set the record straight: Thornton opened and gave up 5 UNEARNED runs. Stripling came on for 7 shutout innings. Rays DID NOT have an earned run until the 10th inning.

The power and probability of a baseball team changes every day. I like Joe Musgrove, but is he in a class with Corbin Burnes? Not quite, and the offenses for this matchup are equal. I will ride the superior starter and let others criticize Musgrove or the lineups.
Only play of the day.

I haven't had any spare time to handicap for the last few days , but I was one who had Woodruff yesterday . The people who bet Snell must not have bothered to check both of their stats. Woodruff has figures to match any pitcher in the NL.

You would be surprised how many guys on this site that call themselves handicappers ignore pitching entirely. They just bet hot teams, streaks and trends. One of the primary questions in that thread was, "Why are the Brewers favored?"

I would hope that this would be the end of a Relief Pitcher starting a game but it seems some Managers must think it is a way to get some advantage or something, I do not see it and yesterday TB-Tor. game is a prime reason why not to do it. Tor. could of won the game and the way the starter that came in the second inning pitched you would think Tor. wins that game but how would you be able to even know how to look at it if your the owner? You watch your Manager make a decision that looks like the reason your team lost but if he has done it before and won does that not give you the right to tell the Idiot Manager he cost the team a win.
Tor. does still have a 500 record after that give away win so it is not like they are out of it and testing this stupid idea that some teams use with pitching now, well I can even think of anyone that would think of it as a good idea.

In fairness to the manager and Thornton I will remind you the 5 early runs were unearned, thanx to an error. When the Rays started this concept the idea was to have a reliever get through the top of the order as sort of a set-up man for the true starter. It worked with success, especially when Yarbrough was the set-up man. It doesn't look as good now, but yesterday was not a good example. And, they may consider the old system again as Yarbrough has not transitioned well into the starter class anyway. All very confusing, and very hard on 5-inning cappers, since the 1st is 20% of your game.
<-- no insults, you had a legit subject for a change, Congratulations.
