I've trying to figure out these steam plays in MLB. 90% has to be lineup based. I mean the Angels alone had to be due to Trout in his second game back. Cobb has been money though on 6 days rest this year. Arizona was strange because both lineups were stacked. I can only speculate it was a Folty fade, which made total sense. He survived on fumes alone. That guy is a keeper for sure.

To fully understand steam you would first have to know the source of it. Was it truly a deep pockets professional gambler or just hundreds of average Joe's with the same conception of the game, or the same misconception. That is why either following or fading steam is NOT handicapping, it is just letting unknown others be your guide. Frankly, sir; I ignore it. What I care about is my handicap versus the proffered line. If the proffered line is 5% +/- from my own I have value. When I say get it early what I mean is I expect other sharp handicappers to come down on that side and move the line against us, as in the Mets line today. That did not happen with Atlanta and for whatever reason I don't know, but it happens frequently. The Angels were also a steam team yesterday and they lost. Like I said, I just plain don't worry about it. There is no guarantee the money moving the line did any better job of handicapping the game than I did.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

Thanx, Log Cottage, but you gotta be careful about jinxing a play before it's official. We are both "old boys" and we have seen stranger things happen.
