Prates: Play to -136. Instead of backing Verlander based on what he once was I think it better to accept what he has proven to be, now, in this day and age. He has proven nothing since coming back and Cole is probably set for an early All Star appearance, maybe even the start. Given that Cole/Pirates own a 6-2 road record and Verlander has yet to record a win or quality start I think the Pirates are highly undervalued here.
White Sox: Play to -135. OK, the Cardinals are now so unbeatable they now get favored over the best lefty in the game of baseball. Makes perfect sense right. Lance Lynn + Cardinals + home field. WOW! Yeah wow, step back and take a better look at this. The Cardinals are running away with the National League thanks mainly to a phenomenal 44-15, 74.6% record vs RIGHT handed pitching. That number assures them of a playoff spot even if they go 50-50 the rest of the way, BUT; they are only 7-9 versus lefties, have dropped 4 straight with an offensive era of just 1.27 and if they hadn’t won back to back low scoring contests over Brett Anderson they would be 1-8 their last 9. Kudos to Cardinals management for building a team that will get to the playoffs because, frankly, beating lefties is not that important. The WS may look like a pathetic team and maybe they are with Jon Danks on the hill, but with Sale out there they are 4-3 on the road and 8-6 anywhere. Sort of effects your power rating and projections doesn’t it? I’ll play.

Key I hate being the guy who asks a question about a game you obviously aren't playing but, I'm just curious if you have any thoughts regarding the Giants game. I've already made this a play is why I ask. Anyway, you do a fantastic job and BOL today man!

I think the Giants are the better side of that play but it has been a while since they traveled cross country. I think I will sit this one out. BOL

Sale is a stud but what about the run support? WSox have only given Chris 3 runs (one run per game) in his last three starts, all of which were losses. Definitely a value play but doesn't Chicago's bats worry you a little?

Sox coming into this game batting around .275, with an OPS of something like .790. Cardinals have managed 1.6 runs a game against lefties in June.

I have following/tailing you the past few weeks and I appreciate your insight and picks. Can you tell me what sites you use to find out teams batting averages/run production versus lefties and righties etc.?

Love the bucks bet. But going against the hottest team in baseball at home is mind blogging. The cards have been struggling with lefties because 4 of the new player (heyward, scruggs, wong, and blank*) wasn't hitting but they all have been hitting good the last 10 games or so. Gl regardless.

GL Key, appreciate the picks. The insights you post along with your picks make it much easier to tail you and understand the logic behind the selections rather than just following blindly.
