Excellent...but you know what's been buggin me since that night? If Buckner gets that ball did you see how close fast Mookie Wilson(running even faster I bet than normal considering the circumstances) was to first base? I contend he may very well have beaten Buckner to the bag-I don't think the pitcher was there and all this is a tragedy...

I've thought about that occasionally since the night our crew had champagne bottles in our hands watching that fateful play.....

never to be opened.

It would have been extremely close.
But Carter doesn't score if Buckner keeps the ball in front of him.

I used to.think the same thing about the buckner play untik I saw piazza ask mookie about it and mookie said buck woulda beaten him to the bag. I think mookie.was.being honest cuz it woulda taken some heat off buckner had that been the case.

Always felt bad for buckner for.that moment cuz of the way idiot fans tormented.him and his families personal lives because of.it, like bartman too

I agree,you have a chance to end the World Series,I don't care if you have to run through the fucking wall to make the play,you gotta go for it. He played it like a total box. I could ALMOST see a player doing that during a meaningless game during the season but game 6 of the World Series?????? Lay out you box and make a play

Dude, we're the Texas Rangers we don't play D it's all about scoring runs. We'll forget Cruz's mishap (he hit 8 HRs this postseason) in a day even if we lose tonight but I'll agree that was a below average, even for us, play by Cruz. 

As for tonight. We're am emotional team and gonna be tough for us emotionally to come back after choking twice but we may go off and hit 5 HRs so there's a shot but if you're betting the game: us against Carpenter again plus Card's momentum? I'm thinking Cards take this and agree with most of you over looks good.

  Newspapers are reporting he pulled his groin on that play.  Possibly might  explain what appeared to be a lack of effort. Not making excuses for him, just saying it's hard to close on a fly ball and properly time a leap, with that type of injury.  BOL

Who in the F cares how he has hit on that play? It's his job to play defense as well. I wouldn't even classify that as a tough catch. He made it tough be jogging to the spot and making a jumping stab at it. That is a padded wall with a chance at securing your team the World Series victory. Dude pussed out and there is No 2 ways around it!!

Point is they shouldn't have to be,they should still be out celebrating a World Series Championship. He loafed on the ball tehn pulled up near the fence,he played it like it wasn't an important play,meanwhile it was the most meaningful play of his career. Horrible effort for such a big moment

That should have been an easy catch and he played that about as badly as you can play a ball. He got no jump on the ball and then stopped and let the ball go over his head. It hit the bottom of the wall. After it rebounds off the wall and goes by him, he goes after the ball like he was going for a walk in the park.

This play was much worse than Buckner's error but even after the Ranger's do their laundry tonight, he won't get 1% of the grief that Buckner got even though Cruz's error was much worse.

I love hearing clowns complaining about how someone didn't make a catch and it "cost them" the game.  He should have caught that and then I wouldn't have lost my bet....boooo hooooo!  The Cardinals won that game and will win tonight bud!  Quit posting just to cry about your losses lol!!!!!

I've seen great catches made in the outfield and it looked like he could have made a great catch up against the wall.  but he didn't.  maybe makes up tonight, maybe not.  but if he had caught it, no tonight.

I personally had the over, so I could care less.....other then I HATE poor efforts by any athletes period. If you can't see that was a fairly routine catch by professional standards, then my guess is you never played competitive baseball.

You can't fault Cruz on that play.  The manager is the blame.  That pitch selection was horrible.  Feliz should of thrown high heat out of the strikezone enticing a strikeout!  That was too easy of a pitch for Freese to hit with two strikes on him.

I’m not saying the game was rigged, but it certainly did have that scripted WWF/WWE feel to it.  Hell, they even had the hometown kid play the hero.

Ummm....first off, Washington didn't call that pitch, Napoli did.  Second, if you know anything about pitching and baseball in general, that was actually a pretty good pitch...down and away.  Third, the "selection" was fine (fastball)...just could have been "located" a bit better.  In any event, to place the resultant blame on the manager is totally ignorant.

I don't think he pussied out. I think he just was unsure of himself as he was running and a bit uncoordinated in his going back and jumping. 

Does he sometimes come out for a defensive replacement? That might have been the real mistake.

A real talented, athletic, aggressive outfielder would have been going at top speed and crashing into the wall. Cruz didn't wimp out. He's just not that athletic.

Tough one for him.

But damn, 41 walks given up by Texas! This is really on the Texas bullpen.
