God, I love the Freak. Didn't even have his B stuff tonight as he got behind every hitter and still sparkled. That 8th inning was pitching. Been riding his opposition TT unders for a while now. Dude has been lights out the last 13 games (~1 era).
He jumped Halladay and Kershaw's ERA's after tonight. He passed Halladay's K's also. Still slightly behind both in WHIP. Leads in BAA. Record isn't as good due to no run support.
I'd lean Halladay now due to team's record, but this is a close, close race just like in the AL.
Cueto and Vogelsong can be in the convo also. I just don't think Cueto has the volume and while Vogelsong has the ERA and record, his BAA, WHIP, K's and name recognition just arent there.
Thoughts?

This isn't an MVP race... Cy Young has nothing at all to do with your teams record. The fact that Kershaw is 16-5 on a garbage team makes his season even more impressive.
Kershaw 16-5, 2.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 207 K's
Halladay 15-5, 2.56 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 182 K's
close yes, but can't really argue Halladay over Kershaw based on those numbers.

People too often confuse that MVP is most valuable player (usually associated with someone who plays on a good team)...
Cy Young is simply best pitcher in the league. Period. Doesn't matter if he pitches for a 100 win team or a 100 loss team. Steve Carlton won the Cy Young for the Phillies in 1972, the Phillies were 59-97 that season.

It does matter. It shouldn't. You can say it doesn't, but that is why it was a huge argument whether or not Felix should have won it when he had the best numbers by farrrr.
Wins mean absolutely nothing to me or people who know baseball. Wins are predicated on your offense, bullpen and luck. That is why Felix won it at 11-10. If Lincecum keeps this pace up, he will win it.

And Halladay pitches in a bandbox half the time in a decent hitting division. Kershaw and Lincecum pitch in pitcher's parks half the time and are in a worse hitting division. That should be taken into account.
Kershaw also has an extra start on Halladay. And, like I said before, after tonight, Lincecum has a better ERA and BAA. Only 17 ks behind and is the hottest pitcher in baseball

I believe Kershaw wins the award here. This seems like the same case as Felix winning it last year. Playing on a sub .500 team , but tied with most wins at 16, even better than what Felix did. Along with that he's allowed less runs than Halladay, Kennedy, and Lee. That would seem crucial since, Kershaw is playing on a team that usually doesn't score a lot runs. Then he's also pitched just as many inning as Halladay has. On top of that he has lowest era and whip compared to Halladay, Kennedy, and Lee. What more could Kershaw need on his side?
I know Lincecum has been hot since not allowing more than a run since the all star break. However Kershaw has been able to stay all season. Shouldn't that matter more than being hot for few months compared to being hot throughout the season?

This is hands down Clayton Kershaw's award. I don't think the vote will really be that close
Definitely not hands down... And to be honest I think that Doc has a lock on it right now. Doc pitches in the NL East and in a hitters ballpark and is leading his team to the best record in baseball. Kershaw pitches in a pitchers ballpark. Imagine Doc pitching most of his games in chavez ravine, candlestick, and Petco......
