But then who is in 4th and 5th place in that scenario. And you said earlier the half way point is where you evaluate teams. So is a team on pace for 84-85 wins a shit team? Even though, as I said during spring training, that no team in teh AL East will win more than 94 games.


Never said last place...but the O's won't be over .500 by season's end.

Lets put it this way. Sparky will say the Red Sox are and have been the Yankees biggest rival. Unfortunately, he would be wrong and most old school Yankee fans will tell you in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s that the Orioles were their #1 rival.

It was not until the Sox got really good in late 90s and early 2000s (and that coincides with the Orioles going into sucking) that the Yankees and their fans started to see them as their #1 rival and most hated team.

Dont get its twisted both Boston and NY have hated eachother as their is just a mutual hatred of both cities. But for over 4 decades the Yankees and their fans viewed the Orioles as their #1 rival because the Orioles were the team and franchise to emulate during those times.

Lets see how Chen does facing an MLB team for the second time. We know that pitchers from Japan can be good when other teams haven't seen them before. Now the Yankees will have seen him before. And they didn't fair too badly against him the first time. 7 hits and he didn't get out of the 6th. And as for Hammel...the Yankees will be seeing him again too after not having seen him since 2008. I guess we'll see how you fair.

So why am I posting in this thread if you continue to do the talking for me? It's amazing how much you used to say that I brought up bogus things that I claimed you said in past threads when you have done that on a number of occasions in this thread. Like saying I expected the O's to be in last. Like I said the Yankees are a good team. Like I said Arrieta was the pitcher I thought would be the most successful. Etc. Etc. Etc.

The Red Sox/Yankee rivalry is a rivalry amongst fans. It hasn't been a rivalry for years. I'd say it ended after 2004's comeback with a little spark when Joba threw over the head of Youkilis on back to back pitches. That's it.

Sparky  about a week ago you said you would take Arrieta over Matusz without even thnking about it. And I said I would still take Matusz even with his current issues.

Dont act like you didn't say that.

Also stop saying you didnt come out and say the Orioles would be in last place this year. You have said the Yanks, Rays, Jays are good and the Sox should be good. That leaves the Orioles as the last team. You have said they suck and you still believe they suck and are playing well above their heads. Just because you flat out didnt say the O's would come in last doesnt mean by the process of problem solving that you can't come to the conclusion that you believe the O's will come in last place.

And you think anyone actually believes you dont think the Yankees are good. Come on this isn't our first rodeo here.

I never said anything a week ago. I have barely posted on this site over the past few months. If it's not in this thread...than it wasn't said.

The Sox should be good...but it's kind of hard to do that with no closer/bullpen/starting pitching/Crawford/Ellsbury. I think the AL East is very competitive but not really great. The Rays are the best team in the division. Everyone else is a question mark. The Blue Jays' bullpen is a question mark. The Yankees' pitching is a question mark. And the O's are bound to fall off. It's damn near impossible to predict this division right now. But I stand by my prediction that the O's will be a 4th-5th place team. I think the Sox' season can get uglier real quick.

And that's not fair. You bitch at me all the time because I'm not allowed to make conclusions based on things that you infer. So why can you?

I've already said I'm not high on the Yankees. If Kuroda becomes consistent, Nova becomes his 2011 form, and Pettitte becomes his 2010 form...than the Yankees are in good shape. But that's asking for a LOT and it's reasonable.

They lost Mo but I think Wade/Soriano/Robertson will do just fine. However...it's the big postseason games that will worry me. Not the long haul that is the regular season.

And their offense is the Yankees' offense. I'm not worried about that. But if their starting pitching doesn't shape up...they're not making the playoffs. And it will be the Rays/Tigers/Rangers/Angels.

All you look at are stat sheets, you dont look at video.

Thus why anyone who even mentions anything about Matusz from 2011 I dismiss as hogwash. It would be like me talking about Josh Hamilton in 2009 and trying to pass it off that he is the same player today that he was then.

Matusz pitched lights out his last start until the 6th inning when the defense let him down. Should have been an inning ending double. And I said he would struggle against the Rangers after his 2 good back to back starts.

And a lot of people this spring were calling them one of hte worst teams in baseball and saying they would most likely be a 100 loss team again and had no chance finishing above 5th in the AL East.

And Papi dont even try to pass it off as if you have seen Matusz pitch. Cause you havent seen him pitch much. You live in South Carolina so you dont get Oriole games televised and you are  Red Sox fan so its not like you are going out of you way to watch Orioles games.

Orioles have the #1 strength of schedule in the AL and #4 SOS in the entire MLB.

Their record is against some of the best teams. It isn't inflated from playing some of the bad teams.

Pero how the hell u know what I watch? I know u aren't up to the technologies of today but they have this thing called MLB.com that u can purchase and watch whatever game u would like....

But no I haven't watched all of Matsusz starts.

No I am comparing Matusz who had a setback with another player who had a minor setback in 2009. Both suffered injuries and were more or less rushed back without being 100% healthy and it affected their performance.

Matusz also had to deal with questioning Mark Connors and the Orioles who were changing his mechanics and delivery that he had used his whole life and had a very successful rookie campaign in 2010. He saw his stuff was not as effective and his velocity dropped from the changes.

But nice try. Cause Matusz was a #4 draft pick and regarded as the best pitcher in the draft in 2008, Obviously he was not the talent level of Hamilton and not many have been since Hamilton was drafted.

Too bad I have made fun of people on here calling Pujols a bum. He is adjusting to a new league and pitchers. He is learning how teams are attacking him and pitching him.

Pujols timing is off right now. Once he gets his timing down he will be back to being just Albert.

And I know you haven't watched Matusz. I dont need a crystal ball or for you to tell me about technologies. I have MLB package on directv and also have the mlb.tv package so I can watch any game while I am traveling and out of town.

I watch a hell of a lot more baseball than most and would guess I watch more baseball than 95% of the people in the country.

Hell I even dvr games and rewatch them.

Matusz problem is he opens up his front side too soon. He still does not repeat his mechanics as well as he did in 2010. It is a work in progress but he has gotten better in every single start this year.

I could careless about results at this point with Matusz. It is more important about him being able to repeat his mechanics and the sharpness of his pitches. His curve and slider have been the best I have seen from him since the end of 2010. His mechanics get better every start and his fastball is back to being in the 89-92 range with movement instead of mid 80s and no movement like last year.

The only thing he has not shown is the feel for his changeup, which was his bread and butter pitch and was called by most scouts the best change up in the entire minors when he was in the minors. Many scouts said his change up was comparable to Cole Hamels and some thought it might be better. Once he regains his feel for the change up Matusz will be back to the form he showed in 2010. Its a step by step process with Matusz. They had to rebuild his mechanics, confidence, and physical/mental strength after Connors completely ruined everything about him last year.

Matusz to me this year is like Wieters the past 2 years. Everyone on here was ripping Wieters calling him a bust and he would never become what the hype predicted.

I tried explaining to people that he had not focused on his offensive game and had dedicated all his work and training to the defensive part of catching. I tried telling people to be patient and that Matt would start to hit.

Well last year in August the light went on for Wieters offensively. He batted .275/.354/.910 the rest of the year.

Since last August till today his line is:

.274/.355/.907

While playing the best defense at the catcher position. All that equals up to him basically being the best all around catcher in the game.

I'm sorry. But I rather have a starter that looks like shit but puts up quality numbers in the box score than a pitcher who puts up shitty numbers in the box score and "looks" good.

One of the best young hitting teams in baseball, Pitching that's only getting better, One of the best bullpens, A really good coach, etc. etc. the birds are for real...and he's been right ALL along....all fucken along....they were getting there..they still are...but this team is good enough to make the postseason...and are only getting better....soon to be a world series contender...get your blinders off yankee fans you guys are fucken annoying my god!!!!
