Thanks folks, I've been down on the K props the last week or so. But I've been stalking this one for a few days now.
Matthew Boyd OVER 6 K's(-114) *3.00/2.63
Going off the theme of yesterday's cap of the Tigers/Orioles game. What lefty starters have the O's faced recently which have their #'s through the roof? (Keep in mind Norris had 2 unearned yesterday due to errors)
Daniel Norris, Kyle Freeland, CC Sabathia, JA Happ twice. These guys combined, average a K rate of 18.95% and a FIP of 5.60.
In those games the O's had 113 plate appearances and struck out 20 times, or once for every 5.65 PA's. Their K rate was 17.7%, BA .353, OPS 1.108. Smashing no doubt, give credit due and I can't take that away from them.
I've isolated 3 LHP pitchers that they've faced this year who have similar K rates and FIP ratings as Matthew Boyd. Oddly enough 2 are currently on the shelf as of now.
Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon and James Paxton
Those 3 combine for an average of 32.13% K rate and 2.48 FIP rating. In the last 3 games vs those guys the O's had 72 PA's and struck out 29 times, or once per 2.48 PA's.
Matthew Boyd= 29.6% K rate and 2.94 FIP
Only 2 guys(8 PA's) from Baltimore have seen Boyd's stuff. If they try to swing at the first pitch then good luck to them.
Today's UMP Phil Cuzzi has a career 192-243 O/U record with a big 21.3% K rate. And he's been around for a while. Those numbers aren't comparable to some of the newer umps who's K rate is high by default vs the recent strike out epidemic laden players of the MLB.
If you are worried about the O's using 8 righty's today, it's nothing that Boyd isn't used to. 229 PA's vs 41. Vs righty's he is still clipping them at once for every 3.41 PA's.
John Hicks is catching Boyd today. They are in tune this year, striking out batters once per every 2.71 PA's. Allowing a BA of .195 and an OPS of .562.
Boyd on 4 days rest, night, and away work for me as far as K's go.
If there is any time better for Orioles regression vs LHP, I'd say that today would be it.
Honestly I don't have time to look into Bundy vs the other side, bullpens, etc...So I'll go with this prop. Let's hit craps(7) fellas
