Very poor tag but he barely got him. Only reason people are saying its worst call ever is because he didnt tag home immediately. If he does, its just another missed call.

the chad10 was drunk when he posted it. excuse his retarded-ness. Lugo is clearly out with a tag on the knee or thigh, and you will clearly notice that lugo never tags the base til after he was safe. Any other time a runner gets tagged or even brushed by a catcher that far away from home plate its an auto out. Lugo even slid in leg first so theres no way to say he reached around the tag.

He was out ! your video does not provide any kind of evidence ! if it does it just confirms he was out by a mile !

everyone and everything clearly points that he was out, the commentators, the video, lugo´s reaction, a mile away from the plate, the tag and later on when lugo was standing he touched him even more as somebody already noticed and said..

it's pretty clear he tagged him on the leg i don't know what you are on but Lugo was out by a mile and the Pirates got screwed last night wasn't on the game but absolutely sucks to lose a game that goes 19 innings in that fashion. It's incredibly stupid that MLB has instant replay for home runs but not for a situation like this that decides the game on the wrong call.

Jim Joyce part II.  Another example of an umpire thinking he's bigger than the game itself.  Forget analyzing the video (frame-by-frame) for a moment.  Bottom of the 19th inning of a hard fought game by both teams...one team whose playoff lives are at stake.  Meaningless ground ball to the infield...catcher blocking the plate perfectly...throw beats the runner by a mile and three feet u the line...well executed swipe tag maintaining control of the ball...runner knows he's out.  Under those circumstances, there is no justifiable basis to call the runner safe.  For that ump to end the game on that play is totally inexcusable.  A 19-inning marathon should be decided by the players and in a clear and convincing manner.

WORST CALL EVER.... HE GOT HIM 3 FT IN FRONT OF THE PLATE.

Ump admitted he thinks he tagged him on the shin after watching the replay. Muthaf*cka should be assassinated!

Looks like a phantom tag, similar to the phantom tags that usually go in favor of the defense at 2nd base.

Bottom line if the ball beats you to home by that much you are OUT 100 % of the time tag or not... Much like an infielder getting "around" 2nd base on a DP.. Ump was ready to go home plain and simple.. Cant blame him.. But he was OUT...

I dont think this was a case of the umpire "trying to be bigger tham the game". I had NO money on this game, but kept flipping back to it just because there was nothing else on. When I saw it live, I almost jumped out of my seat when he called him safe. Then after watching the replays, it wan't such an obvious call.

I do think he was out, but it was a LOT closer than I thought. It didnt have to be. Why in the world is he swiping at the runner? He had him dead to rights. Put the glove in front of him and just tag him. I am sure he thought it was a lot closer than it was though.

either way, THANK GOD I had no money on that game, that's a brutal way to lose,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

stop the video at 1:31.  hes out.  got him on the knee.  in that replay you can see the end of the cathers glove wiggle after it comes off the leg.  he was tagged.  good try though.

I agree thats how they usually call those plays. It is not right though. Either you tagged him/base, or you didn't. I hate that "in the area" rule at 2nd base.

If a small glove wiggle is your only evidence than it's not very conclusive...

From that video I don't think anybody can be 100% sure either way, It was either a slight tag on the knee or it wasn't
