What is the definition of value?
How about if you have a losing ticket...what is the value of that ? Zero..

how about if you have a winning ticket? The value of the ticket is the winning...

So you are right.....A winning bet is a value bet.....

A losing bet has no value......there is no consolation price make a smart value bet bet that didn't win.......,

If you bet a favorite and win....it's still a value bet...there 's value in winning.....

If you bet a big dog and lose....there's no value......

No offense, but this line of thinking is just really way off base....and frankly just dead wrong.

Value is assessed based on the players in the matchup and the line Vegas gives us, before the game is played.  Value is not determined after the fact based on whether a team won or lost.

 What is the value that ticket? Zero unless the Indians win the World series....Which is the next question? what is the odds of winning that value...very small..maybe impossible...so that ticket has no value ....

I think a lot of you may be tired of the term because people throw it around a lot not using it in it's true meaning. Maybe it would be better to call it "expected value" bet haha.

Basically, if say, the Astros are +200 vs the Cubs, and you expect the Astros to win half of the games, then you are getting "expected" value on the bet. You don't know WHICH half of the games they will win, but if your opinion, they will end up winning half. So although there is certainly such a thing as "value" and "value bets" it still comes down to your capping abilities and what you expect to happen over the course of time.

All I need is for the team with the best record in the majors in June to make the playoffs in order to make a profit.

What rubbish.  A value bet should not be considered in isolation.

Example:  You find odds of +1000.  Your research indicates the odds should be closer to +200.  Do you avoid it because it will still probably lose?  No.  You take it because you know that in the long run, if you can find these bets they will win a lot more frequently than 1 time in 10 so you will make money.  In the long run.  Not hard.
