Answer: When they go from playing at home against a contender to playing at home against one of the worst teams in all of MLB with a pitcher who has struggled historically keeping the ball in the confines of Rogers Centre (Yes, that's the Australian/correct spelling of centre)

I put it down to not having the cattle. The youngsters like Vlad Jnr and Biggio will be fine. Gurriel Jnr is having a really great year. But they will need time.
Smoak is a former all star hitting near the Mendoza line. You're not going to build a team around Sogard and Galvis and Grichuk.
Jansen and Maile are close to automatic outs. Surely there's a cheap as chips catcher who at LEAST hits at the Mendoza line and isn't any worse defensively?
The above 3 are "decent" players but they're not exactly world beaters. Sogard career WAR 6.4, $555k salary - minor league contract.
Galvis 6.8 career WAR, 1 yr $5m contract
Grichuk 9.8 career WAR 5 yr $52m contract. Only 0.4 WAR this year and hitting .233
I feel sick watching Sanchez pitch. A shell of the former AL ERA leader. Blisters or contusions on his finger might be troublesome but not enough to explain his strikeout to walk ratio this year. You cannot CONTINUALLY miss the mark by that much every outing. (5 ks, 4 BBs yesterday) That's gotta be mentally not trusting himself or his mechanics are breaking down.
Stroman's energy and passion will soon be leaving the clubhouse as he's going to get traded. He and Estrada were the same - they couldn't beat the BoSox or Yankees.
Dunno what will happen with Giles. Probably en route to a contender needing a gun relief piece.
