Line wasn't fishy. Shields is lights out. Tigers was the right play. Leyland and Valverde killed it.

i never understood that garbage. verlander is grooving and they take him out. Like I always say its the managers and umps that lose the games. Still having said that notice how the kc bats didn't come to life until Shields was outt of the game. This guy has pitched half a dozen 2 run games only to get 0 run suppport. Team must hate him or something.

Problem is baseball has to many games so stupid managers get away with these mistakes, What did Det manager say after game? Benoit should be the closer, I would send Coke and Valv to triple A because these guys are just terrible

to tell you the truth, i really like the managing style of jim leyland. he does not bullshit around. he makes a decision to do something and he does it. he doesn't wait around to see what a pitcher is going to do. If a pitcher does a solid 1 inning and that's the amount of innings that he is known to pitch, don't push it but seeing if he can go a 2nd inning just because he pitched well and you don't have anyone else. just let them come out of the game with a fresh mind knowing that they didn't allow a run and they will be good to go in the next game as opposed to leaving them in there for another 1/3 of an inning or more and then he people up, then you take him out?
The relief pitchers should all have a role and the better pitchers who the best era and whip should be your 7th, 8th, and then of course the closer. If a guy high on the depth chart fukks up, then move him down and allow him to come back up after he proves to be able to get outs and not allow any runs, that simple.
valverde is in there because of the money he's being paid. what's the use of having a big name like him as a closer if you aren't going to use him with the correct situation arises? leyland is not the bullshit manager that's going to bring in his closer to try and get a single out in the 8th inning and then save it in the 9th. i hate managers who try this bullshit especially when they've got more than capable relievers to give the closer a fresh start. valverde blew it today but it's not like he's been fukked up like carlos marmol earlier in the season with the stupid asss manager still bringing him in like an idiot. Don't remove a closer from his position when it's too late, but valverde coming in had a 3.78 era with a whip of 1.04. he had 2 blown saves prior to this one out of 11 chances. that's still good enough to keep his position. he had a bad game and maybe it had to do with closing it out last night too but leyland really knows what he is doing unlike a lot other idiot managers in mlb.
take for example the orioles manager vs the angels up 4-2, hammels allows the first 2 base runners to start the 7th inning against the angels, and gets taken out which was a good thing but why do you bring in pedro strop with a 2 run lead in the 7th inning? i know you want to save darren o'day for the 8th inning and maybe you didn't want to bring in the 2 lefties because of the angels right handed batters, but why couldn't you bring in tommy hunter who has good looking numbers out of the bullpen? He hadn't pitched since june 8th i believe and you bring in strop just because he did well for you last year? that's last year, this year he's been really fukked up, not even in the top 4 of the depth chart.
sometimes it's really complicated if you don't pay attention to what the hell some of these managers are doing but as you saw, pedro strop really bombed. i don't understand what the orioles manager was doing today but this is definitely something that jim leyland would never do. i haven't paid much attention to buck showalter but i don't get a good feeling about him.

I've always defended Leyland. Always liked him, even when Detroit was having meltdowns. Never gave up on him.
But now five losses like this BEFORE THE ALL-STAR BREAK, all of which might have been prevented if Leyland didn't insist on having one more rev up at the brick wall.
Enough is enough.

if valverde is really fuckin' up and more to come then let it be this early into the season. let leyland and the tigers find out that he's not going to be the closer later in the season because as far as i see it, the tigers are going to be in the postseason. every single inch of a move that leyland does, i can see it, and i understand it. it sucks to lose on valverde today but you gotta take it with a grain of salt. if valverde keeps doing this crap, i guarantee you leyland won't be having any of it during the last month of the season or the post season. that's what i like about him, i know that he's not going to be putting up with any bullshit especially when it counts. Everything he does is very methodical, it might cause a single loss but this is a 162 game season. it's ok to not really like his style, but at least you know exactly what you're going to get.

Yeah, that's how he operates, but we knew this about Valverde before the season even started. And this isn't a single loss like this, #5 now in this short season so far. Throw in the towel. Pick up the phone and get some new faces.
