But blaming the fan ignores several important facts. The first is that the Marlins had five hits in that inning, none of them by Castillo, who walked later in his fateful at-bat. Second, Chicago subsequently issued two intentional passes that also came around to score. Third, and most importantly, with runners on first and second and one out, and with the Cubs still up 3-1, shortstop Alex Gonzalez booted a sure out, an error that made five of the eight runs that Florida scored in the inning unearned.

Because it sells. He's not the reason they haven't won in 108 years, but he's a convenient scapegoat , "if only he hadn't interfered". It's not even accurate.
He has turned down $100k commercial deals and wants to live in peace, but too many in this world are bullies, . It's a sad reality of the world today.

Why is the media still harassing Bartman? For the same reason that you're posting about Bartman. The Cubs have a history unlike any other team in sports and incidents like that just further fuels the mystique and interest level.
You're right though - it's pretty damn awful what's happened to this guy over the years. I really respect the fact that he just wanted to be left alone.
I doubt we'll ever see this guy again even if the Cubs do win this year.

Such a sad story, IMO. He's harassed (to this day) by people who recognize him. I think I heard that he did an interview a while ago where he discussed suffering through depression due to this incident.
Just leave the guy alone. And the media certainly doesn't help the issue by constantly rehashing everything. I hope the Cubs win this year so people might stop talking about it. I know I definitely don't hear as much about the Curse of the Bambino since the Sox won.

Oh for sure, time may not heal all wounds, but championships do. Few talk about keeping Prior in so late in the game or the Gonzales error that would have erased at least one out, possibly one.
Dude was in the wrong place at the wrong time. If he hadn;t have been so unlucky to have touched the ball, one of the other guys beside him would have had so many years of misery.

Despite the docile, level-headed people of the world, idiotic bullies who are really just angry with their own lives love taking it out on anyone who is an easy target. The Bartman story makes me sad...the Buckner story too. His public appearance at Fenway in 2005 was bitter sweet, but it doesn't change the fact that people die and sports are just a game. We all know that Bartman will never be heard from again...in the meantime, whoever wins, won't change a goddamn thing.

Today's media caters to the hot button topics and as long as the Cubs don't put their sorry history to rest the goat and Bartman will never have peace. They must get the attention they do because Cubs fans would still rather believe in superstitious nonsense than the fact their beloved Cubbies have stunk for 108 years. Perhaps this year it all gets put to rest, but if not, there may be yet another incident that will be hard to put aside, and the "legend" of Cubs jinxes will continue. What a bunch of crap. If I owned the Cubs I would invite Bartman to sit in my personal box and facetiously tell the fans I did it to keep him from interfering with the game. Let them choke on that; every one of them thinks they deserve the seat more.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

If the Cubs win the WS they should bring this guy out onto the field and put an end to his misery. The city of Chicago should forgive that guy and give him his life back. Its the right thing to do.

Charlie Sheen marches in from the bullpen to fire in the first pitch for game one,, only to be topped by Bartman coming out of the stands on the left field foul line to toss one in there for game two. Pay him if you have to,,, he's done his time and then some Cleveland you have a memories gold mine on your hands,, just make it happen, screw the MLB office,, and screw the PC police, deal with that BS later, have some fun with this meaningless ritual.

In all honesty, this will only end when the Cubs win the World Series. Anything less and Bartman would probably be wise to avoid the ballpark. iIf they do win, he should come out and profit from it like never before, though I will respect him more if he remained hidden, quietly living out his life. His enigma status is to be admired.
Once they win (if), he should be invited to the Cubs parade with his patented turtleneck and headphones on. Maybe throw out the first pitch in the home opener of 2017. Create a website for people to confess their sins and anger towards him in 2003. Then move on.
I remember in 1993, Wayne Gretzky high sticks Doug Gilmour, no call is made even as Gilmour is bleeding (automatic 5 minute penalty). Kerry Fraser was the referee. If he makes that call, Leafs probably win that game and then beat the Habs in the finals. Instead, he doesn't make the call, Gretzky scores the game winner as an ultimate insult. Leafs lose game 7.
I have never forgiven Fraser, though as I age it matters less and less. Fraser himself admitted it is the one he wished he had back. He crumbled in the face of having to make the right call against the wrong guy (Gretzky). Sports is a very personal, emotionally investment for people. Sad but true. I never respect people who don't take the difficult, high road, especially when it is difficult to do.

Agreed. These stupid writers for the internet and papers need something to talk about to sell more crap thats why the idea of having Bartman throw out the first pitch is given. There is no way I would take the chance of throwing the first pitch if i was Bartman. It also has not helped any since they had the 30 for 30 Espn documentary on Bartmans catch.

Why they should forgive him, for what, for catching the f'n foul ball and for destroying man's life.
Question is should he forgive the city of Chicago and the Cubs organization who never stood behind him. Freaking losers, hope they lose this year and another 108.

I'm not talking about the Bartman throwing it out for the Cubs,,,, I say he comes out for Clev. with a big,,, "Stick it up your assss Chitown. I gave you 13 yrs of laying low, but now you can take it up the tailpipe, I'm all in for the Tribe now!" Then snap off a hook right over the middle of the plate

I think it was more a conversation opener than anything. And a good one too
Sport as in life throws up perfect narratives from time to time. They are rarely fair but that's not the point is it? The villain or hero is never the only one to affect the outcome they are just the one at the end that suits the two minute summary in the annals of history and drama. Of course he is not vilified by all Cubs fans. But it suits the story and so others vilify all Cubs fans and wish I'll on them as a result. And so it continues....

Wouldn't that be nice?
Id also love to see him throw out the 1st pitch game 3. Only instead of aiming for home, he turns around and air mails one into 'the infamous section', takes a bow and walks off the field with both birds flipped.
