    It was THIRTEEN YEARS AGO.

Give me an f'n break. The Cubs had so many errors/failures in tthat game after the Bartman play it was laughable.

The guy who sits in Bartman's SEAT is the lead on Yahoo? Interviewed by 6 reporters? This is worse than the attention the Kardashian's get.

The true definition of losers: Blaming your century of failure on a guy who reached for a foul ball. And then having the media heap it on....

You didn't see the Orioles do that to Jeffrey Maier.

How this guy hasn't committed suicide by now it beyond me.

LET IT GO. The guy reached for a foul ball and was crucified for it because he looked like a nerd?

I REALLY hope the Cubs don't win the WS for what that city and the media has done to that guy.

    End of rant.

The Bartman issue is why I will never root for Cubs. It's not just the media but more so the fan base. To think that Bartman in any small way caused the loss is absurd. Bartman didn't cause the barrage of Florida runs to follow in that game. It was the 6th game. The 6th game. Bartman wasn't there for the 7th game loss yet Cub fan still blames him.

There is no clear evidence that Bartman interfered with the play. Alou later admitted he could not have made the catch. Little good that does after throwing his hissy fit on the field. The media and the Cubs fan base have ruined the Bartman's life.

Notice to Cub fan. You either play well enough to win or you don't. There is no such thing as a curse. So it is my hope that the Cubs lose the World Series in the most painful heart breaking way possible and I hope Fox Sports is somehow to blame as well.

The above post is a perfect example of the flawed thinking I referred to. Do you know the % of Cubs fans who blame him? How does that compare to the % of other team fans who would blame him if it happened to them? No way of answering these questions except to say there is a proportion of moron fans for every big team

Why wish ill on an entire fan base including all the decent fans without knowing if other clubs, including yours, would behave any differently?

We are all animals. No matter what city/team, if this happens at any other ballpark a similar reaction would ensue.

The media will continue to push this crap and it's out of our control.

You have the balls to ask why the media won't let it go and create this thread? They won't let it go because of stupid threads like this. It's over. Let it go. Who cares? Nothing can be changed.

Viewership is down in MLB the media needs another story line and it  doesn't matter who they drag through the mud or at whose expense. The ratings are what it's all about.I mean how many campaign shower parties can you've in one year ...bring them goggles again.

    2)  The media DOES understand that society at large is cruel, mean-spirited and lusts for blood. Let's face it. A lot of people like to think of themselves as good and decent, but in fact love to see people fall from grace--especially celebrities. We live in a society in which people get off on this, and other trash entertainment.

Don't believe me? How in the heck do you think the Kardashains rose to unfathomable fame and notoriety? Society loves trash.

Unfortunately for Bartman, people--especially Americans--LOVE to find someone else to blame for their problems and shortcomings.

Hope I have answered your question.

    Scalabrine,
your long and detailed analyses are always on point, though you only drop them once in a while. I appreciate that a lot. Any feelings about Game 2 of the WS tonight?

It's like anything in society that gets peoples attention, this is just the usual sports "curse" we hear about across various sports teams.  Sports is just entertainment but people take it too far.  They will attach themselves to the fortunes of the team and feel their self worth is associated with the teams success or failures.

People get angry at Steve Bartman just as they are facinated with the Paris Hiltons and Kim Kardashians of the world.  They buy the paper when they see the anger against some unknown citizen, they pick up the National Enquirer on their way out of the store.  They rush home so that they don't miss Honey Boo Boo on tv.

That's my rant for the day.  The subject is interesting because it transcends well beyond sports.
