Best War movie might be 'Glory' with Denzel, M. Freeman and whats his name, Ferris Bueller guy.
I forget about that movie, but then when I see it I'm all like "Gahdam that's a good movie and what not."
with all the Civil War battle "sesquicentennials" (150 year anniversaries) this year, The History Channel has had a lot of shows about them esp Gettysburg. they had a two hour show about black soldiers in the Civil War with emphasis on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry culminating with their assault on Fort Wagner July 18th, 1863. the assault failed and the 54th took massive casualties BUT the bravery shown by the black troops showed they could be reliable "fighting soldiers" and not just support troops for manual labor. they so impressed the Union leadership that the North went on a huge campaign to recruit blacks into the Army.
Glory IS an excellent historically accurate war movie well acted by all involved. Denzel Washington won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar and Golden Globe and the movie was nominated for the Golden Globe Best Picture
