The Social Network: Excellent. I really enjoyed this one. A lot more than I thought I would. Also I found it inspiring. Makes me want to think up some stuff and make a billion dollars
Kick-Ass: It kicked ass!!
saw the 2002 "Catch Me If You Can" biography of con man Frank Abagnale, Jr.for the first time last night. Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken. GREAT story and GREAT acting. definately worth watching IF you have never seen it.

Kick-Ass: It kicked ass!!
watched it last night. thought it started out kind of stupid BUT definately picked up when Hit Girl and Big Daddy enter the picture.
Chole Moretz as "Hit Girl" is like "Matilda" in "The Professional" meets "Gogo Yubari" (O-ren Ishii's teenage bodyguard) from "Kill Bill". her fight scenes are spectacular and she steals the movie.
thought that Red Mist's closing line was a really lame setup for a sequel.
overall it's a pretty good "teenage fantasy" with plenty of action esp in the "Hit Girl"-Big Daddy scenes. I would watch it again just for the fight scenes esp at the end.
Gone With the Wind (1939)
recorded off of TCM's "thirty one days of Oscar" this month and it took me 3 nights to watch this 4 hour "Confederate Soap Opera". damn thing is as long as a Wagner opera. half expected it to end with a 20 minute soprano aria. think a Confederate version of Götterdämmerung
there are some great scenes and special effects (considering it's 1939) BUT I'm somewhat suprised it's considered such in "iconic" American movie. yes, it won just about every major Oscar in 1939 including Best Picture BUT it's WAY TOO LONG and David O. Selznick could have told the story in less than 3 hours without taking anything away from the plot.
Vivien Leigh, who won best actress, comes across as a whiney little bitch as Scarlett O'Hara throughout the movie as do most of the other "southern belles". the strongest female characture in the movie is Hattie McDaniel, who won best supporting actress (the first black person to ever win an oscar) as "Mammy". she seems to be the only one that can keep it together when things go bad.
personally I think that there were numerous 1939 movies more deserving of the Best Picture Oscar esp The Wizard of Oz. GWtW is a classic example of "Hollywood Hype" running over the awards game.
I guess it's worth watching at least once just for it's movie historical value (NOT so much American history) BUT be prepared to do a LOT of skip/fast forward to keep from falling asleep. a LOT of it is BORING!!!

The Mechanic - i liked it. True to the original. Lots of action,
Social Network - interesting but over rated. Can't see this winning an oscar for best picture.
True Grit - another remake. Entertaining.
Inception - tough movie to follow, but really good.
Get Him to the Greek - funny.
Winter's Bone - had never heard of it but watched it because its nominated for best picture. not a bad flick.

Best show ever. Season 5 is a little disappointing though.
Twins (1988)- Such as 80s movie but I thought it was entertaining. I can't believe I haven't seen it before b/c Arnold was my favorite childhood actor.

watched The Battle for Marjah last night on HBO. pretty good documentary about the Marines fighting to remove the Taliban from the area. Marines, as usual, fighting with great skill and bravery BUT at the end it was obvious that for all their hard work and sacrifice they had made little difference in the security situation there because of the lack of Afghan government follow up.
if THIS is what's going on in that shit hole of a country, we may as well just GET the HELL OUT.
