Choke -  I enjoyed this one. Had some awkward moments but overall, Sam Rockwell ends up with a good performance. Nothing hilarious here just a decent comedy with en entertaining storyline and message.

Julie And Julia: The dreaded 'chick flick', but I actually ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

BTW, what's with the "Dec" in the thread title? You going into early hibernation?

watched Resurrecting the Champ (2007) last night on Encore. boxing based story with an interesting plot twist. excellent acting by Samuel L. also watched Australia the other night. thought it would be a complete turkey because I'm really not a big Nicole Kidman or Hugh Jackman fan BUT it turned out to be a pretty good story. David Wenham as the villian Neil Fletcher is excellent but young Brandon Walters as the half breed Nullah, along with the scenes of the Australian Outback, reaaly steal the show.

kind of a "chick fick western" but worth watching. I would rate it a

Funny People - I thought this was really good, had no idea what the story line would be before watching it. Just thought it would be a stupid plot with lots of comedy. Completely wrong, great movie.

A Perfect Getaway - Another good movie, ending did fool me a little. Definitely worth a rent.

the day the earth stood still (2008) on HBO

wanted to see if it was as bad a remake of the 1951 SciFi classic as people said. IT WAS. typical wooden acting by Keanu Reeves as Klaatu and I wanted to strangle that kid that played Jacob Benson. thought John Cleese was decent as Professor Barnhardt but he had a very small part in the movie compared to Sam Jaffe in the original and they needed more scenes with the GORT. THEN, after two hours of just about total confusion, it just ENDS when Klaatu gets back in his sphere and just departs the earth leaving all kinds of loose ends.

Harry Bates, who wrote the original story, estate should sue their ass.

and speaking of people named Bates, I was hoping Kathy Bates, who played SecDef Regina Jackson, would get a metal eating bug enema at the end of the movie.

only worth watching to see just how BAD hollywood can screw up the modern remake of a classic.

wanted to see if it was as bad a remake of the 1951 SciFi classic as people said. IT WAS. typical wooden acting by Keanu Reeves as Klaatu and I wanted to strangle that kid that played Jacob Benson. thought John Cleese was decent as Professor Barnhardt but he had a very small part in the movie compared to Sam Jaffe in the original and they needed more scenes with the GORT. THEN, after two hours of just about total confusion, it just ENDS when Klaatu gets back in his sphere and just departs the earth leaving all kinds of loose ends.

Harry Bates, who wrote the original story, estate should sue their ass.

and speaking of people named Bates, I was hoping Kathy Bates, who played SecDef Regina Jackson, would get a metal eating bug enema at the end of the movie.

only worth watching to see just how BAD hollywood can screw up the modern remake of a classic.

some of the special effects are pretty good so I would say it's worth recording to watch when there's nothing else on BUT it's for sure not a movie worth renting or watching on pay-per-view. if you have an HBO subscription I would watch it and then record the original when it's on turner classic movies or some other old movie channel just to compare.

"The Day The Earth Stood Still" was just plain bad - I'd say avoid at all costs.

Watched "Inglorious Basterds" the other night. Not really on par with "Pulp Fiction" and/or "Kill Bill" in terms of entertainment value (could have made it alot tighter by cutting about a half hour, especially at the beginning of the film), but a very well crafted film nevertheless. One of those films where you really have to pay attention to appreciate all the subtleties and nuances of the dialogue and camera work.

The Wrestler I really liked this movie. I wouldve given Rourke the Oscar for that performance but I guess Hollywood needed their speech from douchebag sean penn at the awards show.

Todd Barry is hilarious as the wiseass store mgr.

    Marisa Tomei

Some may find it slow but I thought it was a terrific movie

Had to watch this one with the wife, but was pleasantly surprised:

    Four Christamses (Vaughn/Witherspoon)

I hate comedies, but I was rolling through most of it.

Public Enemies - Wasn't what I expected but still a watchable movie.

The Manchurian Candidate - I wish the movie wasn't as long but it was still good. Another good performance by Denzel.

Saw VI - It's just like all the other Saw's but I feel like I've invested so much time in the series that I have to see all of them now. I'm sure part VII will be out in 6 months.

I agree Taken was a good flick. I just saw The Taking of Pelham 123 and thought it was a decent movie.

Memento ---I saw this already but watched it "in order" for the 1st time. still holds up as a good movie. I think the way it is actually presented adds to the suspense a but but it is still a good movie if you watch in chronological order

Up - Pretty funny. It's amazing how the latest cartoon movies look on a HDTV.

The Blind Side - Really, really, really good movie. This is one that's probably worth buying on Blu-Ray when it comes out.
