Unstoppable (2010) different kind of "action thriller" about trying to stop a runaway train with a load of toxic chemicals. pretty much non-stop action with Denzel Washington, Chris Pine (who played a young James T Kirk in the latest Star Trek movie) and Rosario Dawson. based on a true CSX unmanned runaway incident in 2001 in Ohio. was somewhat suprised how good it was.
In Bruges (2008) VERY entertaining "gangster comedy-drama" with Colin Farrell , Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. thought it was well acted and had a number of quite funny sight gags and one liners. had somewhat of a "Guy Ritchie style" feel to it. definite must see IF you like movies like Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

George Clooney directed movie about dirty politics. It wasn't a thriller, but it got interesting with the intern involved. I didn't think I would like it but it was not bad.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes- This movie has been on HBO for the past month and I finally got a chance to watch it. I thought it was really good, and I'm not the biggest fan of Sci-Fi movies. Well worth the watch if you ask me.

Inherit the Wind (1960) happened to catch on TCM. it's a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes "Monkey" Trial in Dayton, Tennessee with Spencer Tracy and Fredric March at their best as liberal attorney Henry Drummond (based on Clarence Darrow) and religious firebrand prosecutor Matthew Harrison Brady (based on William Jennings Bryan). outstanding acting by all involved including Gene Kelly, Dick York, Harry Morgan and Claude Akins.
one of the classics

I've thought about renting this like 4 different times while standing in front of the Red Box

The Change Up....with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. I thought it would be a pretty funny movie because I was in that mindset but it actually turned out pretty shitty
They tried wayyyyy to hard with some of the intensive vulgarity dialogue. But there were some nice titty shots and such which were pretty awesome (one super smoking gal) . But some of it was really gross like the baby squirting terds all over Jason Bateman's face in the beginning, I felt like I was watching 2 girls 1 cup or something
But in the end...wasnt that good at all. But maybe I am a harsh movie critic.

Direct Contact............."starring" Dolph Lundgren ()
I actually only watched about 45 mins. of this..........laughable........must have been a movie made to fill out a contract or something.............one of the worst flicks I've watched in a while.

I passed over this film ten times on HBO because I thought it was going to be a stupid remake or twist of the original. I said what the hell and watched it and was shocked how great a movie it was. Well done all the way around.

Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) thought after MI3 the series was getting a little "stale" BUT this one was excellent with pretty much non-stop action, great stunts and a couple of good plot twists. IF your into "action", you definately want to see this one. it's been on the new EPIX-HD channels lately.

Prometheus (2012) - Really good sci-fi flick I give it a
are you speaking of the theater version or the "new" DVD Prometheus "Redux" which has supposedly 30+ minutes of out-takes from the original? I saw the original in a theater and thought it was WAY "chopped up" and confusing. seeing as how I'm seeing TV ads that end with "Questions Will Be Answered", it looks like the producers agree.

Sleepy Hollow (1999) watched on Fox Movies last night and thought it was pretty good action-suspense. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane who is a 18th Century NYC detective investigating beheadings in the town of Sleepy Hollow. decent IF you like early Depp movies.

Mr. Rat, I've watched "Bruges" twice and it is brilliant. I'd like to mention Brendon Gleason as a top of the line actor. I thought the subtle comedic scenes were great. A racist midget??
The ending had two twist that I thought were GREAT. Gleason makes his sacrifice at the place where he and Farrell had a great scene ( funny to me, remember the tourist?) and then at the end the antagonist commits the sin he wants to punish Farrell's character for. Nice stuff! No Bournes or James Bond bullshit chase scenes that take up half the movie.
The movie I saw recently was Tinker, Tailor, etc. It was Okay... but the BBC had a mini series several years ago on the same Le Carre' book and they had a mini series "Smileys People", also. Those were such better. Sir Alec Guinness played Smiley to perfection. Not even close. I've read all of Le Carre's books. Guinness was Smiley to me. I hope you saw Smileys People and Tink, Tail, etc. on BBC. Opinion?

Pecador if you like Brendon Gleason check out The Guard (2011) where he play a "Gardai" (Irish State Policeman) teamed up with an American FBI agent, played by Don Cheadle, chasing drug smugglers. VERY will acted by all involved. has kind of an In Bruges feel to it with the interaction between Gleason and Chedle when they are on the job.
I said last month that "Tinker, Tailor," was a HUGE disappointment esp considering the cast. was almost impossable to follow. glad I didn't waste my money seeing it in a theater.

'Silent House' - Kinda boring, pretty predictable ending..That girl, the younger sister of the Olson Twins, is hot as hell tho'. I spent the whole movie hoping one of her titties would pop out.
'The Tall Man' - They make it look like a horror movie, which is why we got it from redbox..Spooky beginning, thriller in the middle and dramatic movie ending. Pretty crazy plot twist that you can't see coming.
I wouldn't exactly recommend either of these movies, but you could do much worse.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) had not watched before because I got it confused with that 2001 Mark Wahlberg Planet of the Apes wreck and I'm no really a fan of the franchise BUT this one was pretty good action and had outstanding CGI. the epilogue was pretty scary as the "ALZ-113" plague spreads and obviously is going to wipe out mankind.
Outsourced (2006) almost didn't watch because the subject really pisses me off BUT was a pretty good "light comedy-love story" with some really funny interaction between the American trainer "Todd" (which the Indians pronounce as "Toad") (Josh Hamilton) and his Indian call center employee students esp a VERY tasty (and smart) "Asha" (Ayesha Dharker). worth watching IF you like "clash of cultures" type comedy. I really wanted to kill the hell out of "Dave" (Matt Smith) the Bain style outsourcing weasel. was really hoping the movie would end with Todd or someone just beating that cocksucker to death.
Kill the Irishman (2011) probably the BEST "true story" mob movie EVER after Casino and Goodfellas. it's about the mob war between Irish mobster Danny Greene and the Italian Mafia in Cleveland in the mid to late 1970's. all-star cast including Ray Stevenson (as Danny Greene), Vincent D'Onofrio, Christopher Walken, Val Kilmer, Tony Lo Bianco and Paul Sorvino. IF you like mob movies, THIS is a "must see"

The Front (1976) takes place during the 1950's when right-wing nuts like Joe McCarthy were on a witch hunt for "Communists" and many writers, actors and other artists got blacklisted for being "suspected Communists". was NOT your typical Woody Allen comedy
worth watching IF your interested in the history of that time BUT not nearly as good as Allen's other work like Bananas, Sleeper or Annie Hall. does have a strong performance by the great Zero Mostel who actually was blacklisted in the 1950's
OK but you got to be a die hard Allen fan to enjoy this one
