1. The Wire. Best show ever produced hands down.
2. The Office. Starting to fall off but seasons 1-4 are top notch comedy.
3. The Big Bang Theory.

I hate to say it, but Golden Girls is actually pretty good. They've been airing re-runs lately and I've caught a few episodes.

true statement. I remember watching Amos & Andy re-runs in the 1950 when I was a kid. was one of the BEST sitcoms EVER and was very much stolen from by other sitcoms like Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. Kingfish became Ralph, Saphire became Alice and Amos became Norton. other than the race of the actors, the shows had about the same plots.
I have never understood the controversy over the Amos & Andy TV show. IF it was "racist", then so was Sanford & Son
I can't BELIEVE I forgot Columbo. as for the "Dennis...", are you thinking of Dennis Franz as Lt. Norman Buntz on Hill Street Blues and later Det. Andy Sipowicz on NYPD Blue (which is another outstanding crime drama I forgot about)?

You and I would have a blast watching TV in a retirement home. Ha,ha,ha.
I like your list.
I can't narrow it down to three and my memory is so selective that I can't remember shit unless I really need to. But here goes my list...
Tonight Show (Johnny Carson) - If you are to young to remember... then you just don't know what you missed. Get some DVD's if you can.
HoneyMooners - I once lived in a frat house kinda place and we would stay up and watch this every night... We would bet on what would be the first magic line of the show... "Pow, too the Moon"... "Nooorrrrton."... "Why I "oughta." "Baby, You're the Greatest"...etc. This show is still funny as all get up. I own the box set on DVD.
Benny Hill Show - That guy was really special and I'm glad we got to see this late at night on American TV in the late 70's.
My wife and I are fans of "reality" TV shows like DWTS and Survivor so I'll miss these when they are gone (if I don't go first). I really like The Amazing Race and the new shot that just ended called "Expedition Impossible" which was really good so I hope it returns.

For longeity, DOCTOR WHO which is still televised since 1960's.
Doctor Who, now on BBC America, is STILL a fav of mine although (like I said) I don't think the new shows are as inovative in writing as the original 1963 thru 1981 shows were. the original four Doctors of William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker (with Baker being the most popular EVER) plus Sylvester McCoy (who was probably the most comical), were MUCH better than recent Doctors, although Matt Smith IS very good and the best so far of the "moderns".
