The decade has definitely belonged to Simon Cowell and his manufactured popstars. That's all what music television and radios will play most of the time.If you want good music you just have to look that little bit harder for it.
But the internet has come a long in making a lot rare, niche music accessible that you wouldn't have got 10 or 20 years ago, bar a couple of specialist record stores. So for me, the only highlight of the decade in music terms, being able to get millions of songs at the click of a mouse.

some good stuff I really liked this past decade -
Sigur Ros
Interpol
British Sea Power
to name a few - maybe not everybodys cup of tea - but some great music - in fact - multiple albums by all of these artists

Easy. The '00's belonged to hip hop, rap, crunk, whatever it's called (showing my age). Not exactly my cup of tea, but then neither was new wave in the 80's.
The 10's will be dominated by pop-style cross-overs. Taylor Swift being Exhibit A.

Half the stuff, maybe more, that I see on TV that is a so called LIVE performance these days is also Lip Synced as well.
When did all that start anyway? Cordless microphone headsets?
Madonna? Janet Jackson?
It's become a joke. You can clearly tell it's lip synced when the sound seems to be studio made while they are dancing and bending and running around.
Just try and sing while doing all that and you'll see what I mean.

Have you noticed how many remakes are being done in music and films?
They are even remaking current songs, just a few years old.
Can any of these rich industry minds come up with something new that is not fake(made by computers) or just some mindless attempt to redo a classic to so-called bring it up to date?
Peace To All

I agree with this post. I think that technology wrecked the music industry. For the most part, artists are no longer looking to put out an album of good songs, because it falls on deaf ears.
The attention span of younger people is much shorter now. They're looking for instant gratification, and aren't willing to listen to a full album anymore.
I do agree but can't just blanket all these current years.
There are SOME gems out there, just have to look hard to find them.
One of my favorite Bands from back in the day was The A's from the Philly area but they are not well know outside that area.
"Parasite" and "After Last Night" are still jamin songs to me.

A lot of the old tv stuff (soul train, American Bandstand) is LS'd........it's no secret. See any drummers on those sets? LOL.......
Tom Petty admitted they LS'd the SB half time show.............just can't get the sound good enough to do it live in a setting like that with no time to set up the stage.
I think the point made above is that a lot of stuff made today couldn't be performed live if they wanted to, simply because of the way it's produced & the LOFT of the "musicians".
