Top Gun - Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" and Cheap Trick's "Mighty Wings" (+ the flying scenes) are two things that save the really gay and completely bullshit storyline in that movie.
Heavy Metal - ALL good music BUT the two best are the cuts from Cheap Trick's "Reach Out and Take It" and Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal"
Goodfellas AND Casino - I add them together because of both films excellent use of cuts from various Rolling Stones. btw, that classical opening in Casino is from "St. Matthew Passion" by J S Bach.
Apocalypse Now - use of Jim Morrison and The Doors "The End" for the opening is brilliant as is using the Stones "Satisfaction" in the "water skiing in a war" scene and Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" during the helicopter attack.
A Clockwork Orange - Wendy Carlos's synthesizer versions of "Purcell's Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" (opening scene) and "Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, 5th movement" (record store scene) are brilliant. the use of Rossini's "The Thieving Magpie" (La Gazza Ladra) in various scenes of "ultraviolence" like the gang fight in the casino and the scrap on the waterfront fits perfectly as does the use of cuts from Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance 1 & 4" for various prison scenes and cuts from Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" during the "Alex's biblical daydream". then there is the use of "Lovely Ludwig Van's" Ninth throughout with cuts mostly from the 2nd and 5th (Choral) movements.
