List of bands seen in concert

I went to a lot of concerts in the 70's and 80's. By the time the 90's rolled around family took priority and going to concerts and partying became a thing of the past. I have put together a list of most of the bands I had the pleasure to see during that time. I am sure there are some missing and may add later. A number of these I have seen multiple times Stones (3) The Clash (2) Rush (5) Aerosmith (2).

Some of the crazy times were as follows: the 70's and huge concerts at Anaheim Stadium. Cal Jam 2 with me and more than 300,000 others in Ontario 1978. The US Festivals of the 80's.

I am very glad I was able to see before they left us.

The Clash  both Hollywood and LA Coliseum.

A couple of bands I missed and wish I would have seen are Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

These are the ones I can come up with off the top of my head.. 1 Cool thing I did see what Rob Halford singing with Black Sabbath when Ozzy was sick in 2004 or so at the Ozzfest..  Plenty of nameless bands too

Good list dillon. I also saw both Black Sabbath line-ups with Ozzy and Ronnie James. Ronnie James is a great singer and was very very good but, Ozzy is well, we all know he is Black Sabbath

Billy Squire on your list reminded me of what was almost. I had two tickets in my hand and a hot date and he cancelled the show. Do not recall the reason but, sure was disappointed when it happened. 

Mugg, I bet you could write a book on what you have seen and it looks like your list is growing weekly. Would have liked to have seen Supertramp they are high on my list of favs.

I will be adding more because, I remembered some I missed and also found some from saved ticket stubs. I tried to save most of my ticket stubs from shows I attended. The one thing is some of the infomation is gone from getting ripped in half when you enter and some just got lost.

Mugg, I do have a stub from Pat Travers and he was actually second bill to Detective who was the headliner . The stub does not have a year only Feburary 19th. It had to be between 1977-1979 because Detective dibanded in 1979.

On Judas Priest I think it was the British Steel Tour so, want to say around 1980. I will need to look for that stub.

I will be also telling stories from the past and here is one:

This is not related to a concert it is a meeting with an artist I was a big fan of in the late 70's early 80's. I used to work for a company that made muscial instrument cases (only for a short time) around 1980. I got the chance to attend NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, Ca. It also opens it's 4 day run today.

A friend of mine called and says he has a pass to get in and will be picking up Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick to take to the show. I say what time do we leave? So, he and I go to the Sheraton the next morning in a beat up station wagon and pick up Rick Nielsen. I bet Rick never got picked up by a station wagon before. 

We drive him to the convention. Rick seemed to be burnt out from partying but, was a really nice guy. We talked a little about the Chicago Bulls since he was from that area. It was great to meet someone I had grown up listing too and was a big fan of.

At the convention we also met Gene Simmons who was walking around. My friend say Gene let's see your tongue. He smiles and sticks it out.

Would love to see you more current music guys check in. As you can see I do go to many current shows but I am interested.

Dsn, great concert list and stories  Beach Boys is a great first concert. Glad you did not miss that Dio/Dokken show and what a cool police officer.

I had to look up Giuffria  and realized he played with Angel. I had their music and am pretty sure I saw them in concert.

 MrTTL 800+ shows? Sure. And Wilt Chamberlain had sex with almost 20,000 women. Just kidding. That is amazing and I like that you kept most of the ticket stubs.  Great list of bands and commentary. Liked the list of got dragged to these shows. The first three are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Great stuff!

cashin, you have one that really stands out and most people wish they could have been so lucky. The Beatles. WOW! Not many people can say that. Another one that sticks out is Janice Joplin. I know what you mean by it being hard to remember a lot of them and sure you will think of more. Great list of bands

Here is a story of a cultural experience in music:

In the early 80's I was hanging out with a friend that was into reggae music. He had been to Jamaica and the Reggae Sunsplash Music Festival. He wanted to go again and I went along with him and two other friends. I had little or no knowledge of that type of music but, a vacation in Jamaica sounded good to me. There are about 4 nights of shows that start around 9:00 each night and go into the wee hours of the morning.

One paticular show really stuck out. That night we all drop some acid (maybe that is why it stuck out). The other two friends leave for the show and my friend and I say we will catch up later. It is getting late and we go out to get a taxi. We are really starting to come on to the drugs and get into a cab. We are talking to the driver and find out he is an off duty police officer. That ride could not have ended too soon. We both wondered if we laughed too much and if he knew how high we were.

The show, people we met and setting is incredible. We meet a Rasta man and ask if we can sample some herb. He says I cannot give it to you but, will share it. There is herb everywhere at these shows. In regard to the music I cannot remember all the acts but, there were many including Steel Pulse,Yellowman and Third World among others.

The show ended around 7:00 in the morning with a young Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers on stage. It was one of those wow moments with the sun rising the back drop beauty of Jamaica and the son of the greatest reggae artist to have ever lived singing his legendary dad's music. One I will never forget.

I was at this 1978 Rolling Stones concert and also the one the day before. I was pretty close to the stage but, not close enough to get my shoes on the stage. It was a pretty crazy scene seeing all those shoes flying at Mick and the boys when he said let me have all your f*ucking shoes. I copied and pasted a clip from the article and futher down is the link for the whole review of the Some Girls tour. It is a pretty interesting read especially if you are as big a Stones fan as I am.

The eighth stadium show of the Rolling Stones 1978 US tour was the 7-24-78 Anaheim Stadium concert. This show was even worse than the one before. The band was not playing very well. They were joined on stage by old friend, Saxophonist Bobby Keys, for this second to the last performance of the 1978 US tour.

After the initial excitement of the first five or six songs, the audience seemed bored and less than enthusiastic. Famed German Stones researcher Dieter Hoffmann has noted that some songs in the live set are just too long and self-indulgent (“Just My Imagination” & “Beast of Burden”). The long “Some Girls” set was not particularly inspired, and the audience seemed slowed by this, as well as with the obvious disappointment over the very few Stones classics the band was playing. About mid-way through the set, the audience began to pelt the stage with shoes, a definite sign of boredom and disrespect. The huge red mouth and tongue stage the Stones used on the outdoor stadium performances had a protruding tongue extension, allowing Mick Jagger to perform closer to the audience, almost in the midst of the front part of the crowd. This tongue stage extension gave bored concertgoers a closer shot at throwing shoes at the target, the most famous man in rock and roll, Mick Jagger. The clownish F-train outfit that Mick Jagger used on this tour may also have made him a more of a target to the listless fans: the sports-coat blazer, golfing cap, and plastic pants with tape, are more reminiscent of Bob Hope than a rock star (as Dave Marsh noted in his brutal review of the Stones JFK Stadium, Philly concert).

The fans continued to throw shoes at Mick Jagger on the extended red tongue stage until he angrily told them after “Shattered,” “I’ve got about 80,000 shoes up here, that’s quite enough.” More shoes and sandals continued to be thrown at the stage until it was difficult to walk across the stage, let alone perform on it. Finally, during “Love in Vain,” Mick Jagger sternly told the crowd “Alright, let’s have all your @#$%& shoes!” There was about a four second silence (while they removed their shoes), then everyone in near proximity to the stage threw all of their shoes at the stage. There were thousands and thousands of them, a mountain of shoes and sandals that was just incredible. The roadies had to carry them off in huge bundles. The incident is remembered as non-malicious, but I restate my simple truth, throwing trash or shoes at the stage during a performance is a definite sign of boredom and disrespect.

I can tell you that I was not bored just majorly burnt out from back to back concerts.

Saw The Ramones on November 6, 1979 at a small Garden Grove, Ca. night club that probably did not hold more than 300 people. Cost was $8.50 (I have the partial stub). There were 2 other bands I only remember one of them The Crowd. While The Crowd played there was slam dancing, pogo dancing and worse of all spitting. I have no idea how or why spitting at bands started but, it was one of the filthiest trends I have ever seen.

Once The Ramones took the stage the spitting started again. Well Joey would have nothing to do with it. He said if it did not stop the show was over. It mellow out and the band played on. Then out of the audience someone jumps on stage and onto the back of Dee Dee whose jacket gets ripped off and guitar gets unplugged. This stops the show again for several minutes. Once they escort him off the show goes on again.

My brother and a friend got kicked out of the show for smoking weed.

Several years later I hear a radio interview with The Ramones and they mention that very show and what a mess it was. To me it was a great memory and I was "out there having fun in the warm California sun"

Jimmag - you got a helluva list of shows yourself. Saw the Beatles when I was only 12 with my Dad & sister & my sister still has the ticket stub. Cost - $5, lol. Cheated a bit on Janis - never actually saw a concert of hers, but saw her perform a few songs at a place in Austin where she got her start & she took time off touring to go to a birthday bash for the owner. Sadly, she od'd later that year -

The concert in Jamaica sounds really cool & like a fine, magical experience. Always regretted not seeing Marley & had the chance but can't remember why I didn't make it. Long time ago -
