Because they are the only band in the 70's to stand above and deliver beyond, because they are the only band who chill your rock and roll bones to satisfaction, because the lead guitarist, Terry Kath, is so underrated, because the brass rocks you until tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome...
At number # 43... the band CHICAGO... 25 or 6 to 4.

That song kicks behind. I always thought it was drug related found this below in wiki.
While it has been speculated that the song's lyrics are drug related, that rumor has been largely dismissed. Lamm himself says that the title is "just a reference to the time of day," and that "the song is about writing a song. It's not mystical." The time of day in reference is 3:35 AM (or 3:34 AM), which would then be 25 (or 26) minutes to 4 AM.[2][

How lucky I was to be born in this generation.
To have seen these bands live in concert.

I love Tommy Bolin . So good to hear from some in here who give him credit " Private Eyes"& Teaser" are 2 great albums few are aware of..He's one of many great guitarists like Ry Cooder, Peter Green,Albert King, Albert Lee or Michael Bloomfield who have never gotten their due.
Goose: I respect You and Your taste in tunes. But isn't this list a little " Radio Friendly" ? I feel like I'm listening to my local classic rock Station at home that plays the same 5 Skynyrd & Zeppelin tunes constantly.. How about a few of these that are less common: " It's Never Too Late or Hey Lawdy Mama" -Steppenwolf, " Wondering Aloud or We Used To Know "- Jethro Tull "Meeting By the River or Kitty's Back"- Bruce Juice " Guinivere " - CSN " Into The Sun " , " Heartbreaker" or "All You Want Is Money - Grand Funk" Not Hating mind you ...Just hoping you will pick some more obscure tunes. There are a lot of undiscovered gems out there.

I know Mitch. I know. Unfortunately you and I are a dying breed my friend. The tunes we really want on a top 50 or 100 list would not make a top 1000 list by today's young audience.
Your timing is good, however, for something a little less "radio friendly".

What's sad Goose is that you can list more than 40 damn good R&R bands and they all won't even make your remaining 40 spots
You best not leave out a Genisis/Peter Gabriel tune at that So many great bands and relic classics to choose from
We were/are very fortunate to have lived/listened/seen the majority of all the greatest Rock and Roll groups of all time through our days of our youth till R & R unfortunately transformed into this totally different scene now

The story goes something like this... Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton attended a Jimi Hendrix gig and came away with an inspiration, something they called Cream.
Checking in at #41... Cream...Sunshine of your Love.

Bads. here is a story from my youth pegging my age.....
First concert ever at age 14, Rolling Stones, with everybody in Folsom Field (Boulder, Co where CU plays) wearing these fricken t-shirts enscribed "Greatest Rock $ Roll Band of ALL-Time"(on back) with Damn red tongue image plastered all over front, in July 1978. Peter Tosh, Eddie Money. and Kansas were the openers Didn't realize for a moment what I was witnessing
I believe it was the Miss You tour where Mick always wore his happy golfer cap and couldn't stop gyrating his crotch while cranking out "walking Central Park, sleeping after dark, Lord I Miss you!" lyric of that title classic. But my biggest memory from that show, besides, I believe, Gimme Shelter, was Brown fricken Sugar.....Mick made that song gooooooo,,,on for so long, I couldn't wait to go home
Ironically, that was the summer your boy Bruce Springsteen hit the big time His tour followed the bad boys from England and was tearing up the supposively greatest R & R of all time performance wise nationally with his tour getting rave reviews
Two weeks to the day later, witnessed the Eagles HOTEL CALIFORNIA tour at the same Folsom Field with the entire classic band (yes, Glen Frey AND Joe Walsh. Most memorable classic from that day, besides the entire ALBUM, can't recall the exact name right now, but surely In Goose's Top 40

I recently saw Berlin at an 80's show in my area. Terri Nunn stated that Grace Slick was a big influence and did a remake of that song on her recent record.
