December 31st was the day Paul actually filed the papers to disband The Beatles so I guess you could label it as announced break up. At least he waited till after Christmas.

I was lucky enough to see the original band August 27th 1977 a couple of months before his death on October 20th 1977. It was in Anaheim, CA. The show's full lineup was: Ted Nugent, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foriegner, REO Speedwagon & Rex. Great show it was.
I remember during Free Bird Anaheim Stadium was rocking so hard you could see the sections of the stadium moving not inches but feet back and forth. It looked like they were going to collapse.
