I grew up in Burbank, CA. in the mid and late 70's and my neighbor was Drew Forsyth. He was the original drummer for Quiet Riot. He would rehearse in his garage daily with his childhood friend who played the guitar. That guitar player, some say turned out to be one of the greatest ever, at least for the short time he was around.
Would be deselect in my duties if I didn't contribute Derek Trucks.

I used to have a boot cassette of ABB in Toronto and Derrick sat in for the 1st set, if i remember he was about 12 or younger. You could tell back then that he indeed would master his craft.

Don't think you can talk in terms of "greatest". Have been lots of special & amazing guitarists with different styles & in multiple genres. But the 2 that always stood out most for me were Hendrix & SRV...

I heard Clapton say Prince was the best a couple times ...
Prince flew under the radar for sure. For the most part on all his studio tracks the guitar was never a major point of emphasis, and never mixed in too loud.
But if you saw him live...the dude frigin shredded. He's been known to play way over the time limit many times as well. The Venue would have to basically kick him off stage. What a great artist and musician.

Funny that you just mentioned John Petrucci. He was influenced by Steve Vai who was influenced by Joe Satriani. It's crazy how talent just gets handed down life to life to life.
Was at a Steve Vai concert in the 7th row and he looked at me and fired his pick and hit me center chest and it dropped into my hands.

Seen Pantera a handful of times in my day. I also had tickets to see Damage Plan at the house of blues, they were supposed to play the day after that psychopath in Ohio killed him.

^^^^^^ I’ve met Vinnie a handful of times. Rex’s sister was my 9th grade Georaphy teacher. And I was at the concert Anselmo OD’d at. I knew he sounded f*cked up. Lol

I didn’t even want to go. Just took my son for something to do at Foxwoods on a Friday night. He played “While my guitar gently weeps” as a tribute to George Harrison. Vocals far from anything good but that Fender guitar was very very special. I’m really in shock at his performance.

Saw on TV years ago where Stevie and BB King played in a little jazz club type of place. What an amazing performance by both. I can still remember BB King smiling at SRV as they both go back and forth on their blues guitar licks. I think even he was amazed at the talent Stevie had...

Off the top of my head.....I saw Clapton, SRV, Jimi Page, Jeff Beck, Prince, Martin Barr, Betts, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Howe, John Mayer and many more live in concert....The One Guy that blew my mind and impressed me the most was.....Roy Buchanan.....I play and study guitar.

saw him @ small venue in DC mid 70's but like a dumbass i drank too much before during and after to remember anything but the feel and sound of his guitar and how stoic he was, and he showed up late.I was familiar with his music before seeing him and as time passes i grew more angry at myself for being drunk but figured i'd catch him later...wrong.
