what is the best era for music?

70's???

For classic rock, Totoy, you nailed it...'70s of course....

early to mid 90's

for rock, late 60's thru about '73/'74

I'm just about with ya, i'd say 65 - 75.

Biscuit - yeah, if you were gonna take a 10 yr stretch, that would would be it for me too. Or maybe '64-'74' before disco & new wave got popular. Era wise, probably safe to say early 60's thru the mid 70's 

I've always liked any transition era. When corporate music is fishing for the next big thing and they haven't formulated it yet. Every era has timeless pieces.

and the worst is now

60's...you had coltrane, james brown, temptations, all the pop music (classic rock) from then,etc

The psychedelic 60's. Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, CSN&Y,King Crimson,Iron Butterfly,The Yardbirds,The Animals,The Doors,Moody Blues, etc.

Not to mention legendary acts like The Beatles,The Stones, The Who,Cream, and The Beach Boys were all putting out their most influential music at that time.

Even short-lived acts like The Buckinghams,Buffalo Springfield,The Youngbloods,Blue Cheer,Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Turtles, and Quicksilver Messenger Service made an indelible imprint on the music scene.

For most music lovers of this and others of this time, it's impossible for fans who were not around for it to understand just how fucking cool it was to be able to get fresh new music on the turn table SO OFTEN! Include the above with the southern rock scene,all kinds of old and new blues players,Mowtown etc.Guess ya just had to be there, huh? lol

The answer is much like what is beautiful - it's in the eye of the beholder.

Most people prefer the music of their generation, particularly when they were very young and impressionable.  I am 43 and I would agree that late 60's through the 70's was great... and I include the disco era.

I hated the 80's music at the time, but now I really appreciate most of it, esp hair bands.

90's had some great stuff with the Seattle influence...

 

i was born toward late 70's but I have nothing 2 do with nostalgia, 60's was legendary from stax and motown sounds to rock and hard rock to jazz scene, even the blues entered a revial/golden era at this time... any age that give me velvet underground, coltrane (his prime), and james brown (prime?) is alright with me, right on!

mid 60's-late 70's......................& yes, the worst is now, no contest.

For those of you who believe the 70's spawned the greatest music ever, take a gander at what else this decade provided:

60's and 70's....hands down. 

Quite frankly, I don't really like anything before or after that.

It all depends on your taste of music.

The late 60's and through the 70's had tons of classic rock that people still enjoy.  That type of music isn't my bag - but I understand it's popular to many people.

For me personally the best music has def. come out of the 80's and the early 90's.

The music I liked then - and still enjoy today; most of it came out in the early to mid 80's.

etc.......  I could go on - so many great artist's made incredible music in the 80's - but it's always subjective to opinion.

I love A Flock of Seagulls, but you may think they were complete shit.  You might be in love with Aerosmith ( or another classic rock group ) and I could care less about them.

It's harder to find better music today but it's out there.
