The Mavericks have been here before. Rick Carlilse is the most underrated coach in the NBA. In the 2011 NBA Finals, the Heat who were a much more talented team than Dallas, beat the Mavs in game 1 - but the Mavs followed it up with a big win in game 2 in Miami. The Heat came back to win game 3, but again the Mavs came back and won game 4 and go on to win the Championship. This team knows how to bounce back, and I expect Carlilse to make the needed adjustments. Dirk and Ellis also combined for only 22 points yet they almost won because of there coaching and them knowing how to play the Spurs on defense. I expect them to have a much better showing tonight.
Portland TrailBlazers @ Houston Rockets
Many expect a bounceback game from the Rockets, but I don't agree. Harden isn't expected to shoot as poorly in the second game, but the Rockets as a whole played a very good game in which they led by 15+ at one point. What isn't expected to happen again is the Blazers poor Free Throw Shooting and Rebounding. I posted this in my other thread but the Blazers are #1 in both Free Throw Percentage, and Overall Rebounding. In game 1, the Blazers missed 10 free throws, and had a rebounding margin of -5. Say all you want about Harden having a better game but Portland will play much better this game. You want to trust Kevin McHale to make adjustments? Good luck.
One huge problem we have now. The NBA came out and issued an apology saying a referee missed the call on Dwight Howard late in the game that fouled him out and put the Blazers on the free throw line, basically saying Houston should have won the game if it weren't for the missed call. One thing I know for sure, the whistle will be largely in favor of the Rockets tonight. It's tough because I really wanted to play the Blazers big tonight, but not sure if I can now. Still thinking about this one, will update if I have a play or not closer to gametime.

I'd stay away from the Blazers tonight -- if the league hadn't posted that statement there would easily be a play, but when the memo posts it is game over time usually -- we could see a close game but I think the League gives the Rockets back one tonight -- that said I am in total agreement that the series is the Blazers for the taking

Mavs will get crushed tonight, lc. This is not the dallas team wit kidd. also, did you hear the blazers coach after game one, he said we accomplished our mission here. Not a good sign for backing them tonight.

Tough because I really wanted to play them here but you might be right, I will probably be laying off because of this

Kidd? He wasn't the focal point of the Mavs. The coach is the catalyst to this team. Do me a favor and look up what Carlilse's record is in the playoffs the past few years. Nevermind i'll do it for you. Since 2010, he is 19-6 ATS. In those 25 games, he has lost by more than 8 just once.

LC, Carlisle made his adjustments in the 1st game, that's why they had such success. He used up his bag of tricks. Now it's Pop's turn, and they will have their way with them tonight. A better showing? They played nearly flawless ball for 3 and a half quarters. That's as good as it is gonna get for them, and they still lost.

Yes, the very coach who couldn't get his team one bucket in 4 minutes against the Clips, at home, in a game they needed: killing our over in the process. Then again, in game 1 against the Spurs, Dallas just couldn't score. I don't put all this on the coach, I'm only saying that his team aint that good. They have overachieved, which is a sign of his good coaching. And those are great stats but the law of averages also suggests that those number will have to drop.
BTW, love the banter, LC.

They have overacheived due to the coaching, but that won't all of a sudden stop in game 2. Papavich is a great coach himself, so I'm sure he'll make adjustments but I don't see a blowout coming at all. Don't forget the game 1 line was -9.5 and game 2 is down to -7.5, the biggest drop of any playoff games thus far.

Remember when you said pop has them running and gunning in these spots? Or is that a regular season thing to her them back on track? They only scored 90 (I know they won)

Completely different season in my opinion. Gameplans change, but you never know

If there is one team in the league I'd want more points against, it is the spurs, line reading or no line reading.
I can't see how you think you are in a better spot given this line dropped 2 full points from a very crucial 9.5 where you could buy a hook up to a key number like 10 and now have to stomach 7.5.
That would have me very concerned if I wanted to take the Mavs and needed the spread as insurance. Every single point is crucial if you don't have the Mavs capped as winning outright.

The Mavs could have won game one as we all know, if they had not pissed themselves at the end of it. It has to be a motivating factor for the Mavs. This game will be close. BOL

I agree. They're down 5 games to this team, and are essentially in a must win spot if they wanna have any shot at this series. With that said, the question now is do they really have what it takes to split one away, or beat the Spurs period.. I think they do, and I also think Spurs coming off of a win aren't suddenly going to give it their all in the first round against a Mavs team they can easily beat by a couple points if that is the mindset. If what Parker said in the post match interview is true, that Mavs game them a hard time and it'll be a "battle", I feel comfortable saying it's not going to be a blowout or DD kinda game
