This Bulls/Celtics game today is eerily very similar to the late-season game between the 2 teams last year. Last year, the Celtics blew out the Bulls in their first 2 meetings of the season, only to have Chicago beat them in the last 2. Last year, Celtics were so-called ‘struggling’ going into the post-season play, finishing the season 3-7 in their last 10 games. This year, they’re ‘struggling’ again in the stretch run (even though they won 2 in a row) going 8-8 in their last 16. Bulls, on the other hand are surging, winning 16 of 18. Last year, this team went 10-4 to close out the regular season. Interesting…. The question is, will history repeat itself?
I’ve talked in my ‘breakdowns’ that I’m just not so sure that this game means as much to Boston as it does to the Bulls. Chicago is a young team, and going 2-2 against the Celtics will be a very impressive accomplishment. Plus, the Bulls know they might meet Boston (I think they will!) in the Conference Championship, and what better way to make a statement than to beat them convincingly in their own house. At the same time, I’m sure Tibs is going to want to at least split the season series with his old squad. His intensity is going to be a factor in how Chicago plays tonight. Here are a few interesting comments from players on today’s game:
“Playoff atmosphere” – Rose. .
“It’s going to be a zoo in here. All the Bulls fans are going to be excited. We are excited. We realize it’s an opponent we can see down the road. It’s going to be great.” – Noah.
“We have to do a lot better. We have to clean up a lot of things. You have to think about where you are going as a team. We have to change things. We have to do things a lot better. We have Boston coming in….. We have to play a lot better against them.” – Thibodeau
“We can play better and we absolutely will.” – Booze
I’m not going to include Celtics comments here, but basically from what I’ve read, a lot of it is similar. Even so, I just get a sense that the Bulls will want this one more. Sure Boston is technically competing for a #2 spot with Miami, but they don’t strike me as a team that puts HC as a priority. This is a veteran bunch, and it’s important for them to get healthy going into the playoffs. ‘Statement’ games in the regular season usually apply to the up-and-coming young team. In the playoffs though, it could be very different. (We’ll get to that when the time comes).
Celtics are 6-21 ATS this season coming off a blow-out win. They are 7-14 ATS after allowing less than 86 points in the previous game. What does this tell me? Well, this team is having trouble maintaining the energy level and effort in covering spreads on a consistent basis. Bulls are coming off a game where they let the Suns come awfully close after blowing a big lead. All year long, this team stepped-up in games following ones with a lackadaisical effort. It doesn’t get bigger than tonight.
The favorite is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings and Celtics are 1-4 ATS in the last 5. This play might not have a lot of stats or specific trends to back it up, but I just see this Bulls team going all out tonight, clinching the #1 seed, and making a ‘statement’ in the process! Maybe, history will repeat itself after all.

Bodio, just an opinion. Celtics are 1/2 game out of having tied records with the Lakers. Lakers vs Celtics can be a potential nba finals matchup with home court being huge... Don't you think the Celtics have that in the back of their mind? This might be a must win spot for them as well?

PropKing you're right. Celtics do want to have a better record then the Lakers. They actually have a better conference record then the Lakers which is the tiebreaker if they end the season with identical records.
Bodio have you considered this? Nba Analylist and writers have commented on how the celtics do not want to play game 6 and 7 this year in LA.

Snatched it up real fast b4 she moved. I have a HOOK buying problem. I need to go to therapy to stop buying hooks!!
4.5 or 4?
pretty happy i got it at 4...no real "key" numbers in the NBA but if it turns out to be a close game, a 2 point lead with 2 FT's to end it landing on 4 is a common occurrence.
