Backing the Pacers should make any gambler physically ill. But fading them can be just as an unsalutary. Here is a team that only shows up and gives a real effort when it feels like it, and not just during the regular season but the playoffs! Here is a collection of guys that combined, don’t have the IQ of Scotty Brooks (sorry, had to get that in). Meanwhile, their coach is looking like a deer in headlights, even resorting to such bush league tactics as trying to distract the opposition by yelling and clapping in the middle of their shot attempts. In any other planet with intelligent life on it, this team and anyone who supports them, watches them, or bets on them would have been lobotomized and sterilized by now. However, luckily for us, or unluckily, we live on a planet where intelligence is far less important than entertainment and greed. First, the entertainment/greed machine insures that their cash cow (The Miami Heat) won’t lose this series, and now they will reintroduce a false sense of competition by not helping the Pacers to self-implode. This is the original Reality TV folks: a scripted reality that is meant to get our juices flowing.
As for the game…
The Pacers have been here before, backs against the wall, fighting elimination, trying to salvage their season, yadda, yadda, yadda. It is a narrative that should be all too familiar by now. They will show up tomorrow (as they have done on every other occasion when everyone counted them out) and play a good game. Chris Bosh will come back down to earth, the refs won’t get in the Pacer’s way, Vogel will remember how to coach again, and LBJ will have to have a monster of a game for the Heat to have any chance of thwarting what everyone (except those with half a brain) wants to see: game 6. And by everyone we include the networks. ABC execs must be feeling real nervous by now, knowing that the Spurs/Thunder series is likely going 7 while their overhyped series might end tomorrow. For those of you looking for a cap that discusses matchups, game plans, psychologies etc, my response to you is: why bother? Even the best laid plans go up in flames in this league; whether it be because of no-shows, shady officiating, poor coaching, or bigmouthed players who don’t know when to shut their trap etc… The best thing to do in such instances (where nothing and no one can be counted on) is to follow the money. And my money will be on the sorriest, most dysfunctional team in these playoffs: the Pacers ML.

couldn't agree more!! sometimes sports is predictable in some situations especially playoff time. just like the nyr/habs game tonight. I thought that game was kind of predictable with habs winning n nyr closing it out back home.. same for tomorrow im not saying heat can't win tomorrow but I see indy winning n heat in a blow out to close it at home.. now this spurs/okc is a lil tricky right now it looks like theres game 7 wriiten all over this series, but I wouldn't be surprised if okc does it again n wins 4 in a row well actually now 2 n pulls the same thing like they did in 2012.

It is true that the money is on Indiana tomorrow -- in series bets, prop bets, in game bets, live bets, etc. -- that is one of the reasons Miami will most likely get another favorable ref match-up and another win

From what I see, the ATS money is mostly on the Heat 70/30. And the ML is 60/40 for Indi. Vegas might lose on a couple of prop bets but that's about it. Miami still takes the series in 6 and Indi backers lose the series bets. As far as when the game is, it is on Friday not Saturday. BTW, if Miami wins (covers) that will be the 7th straight time that the favorite has covered in the conference finals.

Do these services count all the bets on Pinnacle Sports, Bet365, William Hill, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes and more?
If not how can you really know where the "money is"? You are taking % from locals, that is not the right way to calculate statistics. Ever heard of globalisation? USA is not the only country that is betting on the NBA now. As a fact I am not a US citizen and not a US resident.

Good thought process. Often times in the playoffs it's not merely about match ups, stats etc. you must put into account revenue & ratings factors. This is one of those spots. Fabricated drama. This series has to go at the very least 6 games to justify things financially for the league. Extending series is a formality to the league. Something they've been doing for years.

BBoy, love the write up.... and the fact that your spot on! Regardless of any statistics, follow the money.... which lies is another game between these drama filled squads in game 6. Love the pacers in this spot, and to reiterate what you said, I'm going to get a sick feeling when I fire them pacers tonight, but this should be easy all the bettors n neat lovers should be on champs -1.

With all due respect to the great cappers on this site, this has to be one of the best writeups/ predictions for a game. And to be honest, I can't even believe what I just saw. On a night when nothing could be counted on, especially not the pacers, the money came through! Thanks to the NBA script and those amazing officials, who went beyond the call of duty, to get us that 6th game!

Hey, Bob, I've been on the wrong side of so many of these, that it's nice to get this one. One day, you and I will have to write a gambling book that seriously considers the role that the league and officials play in determining the outcome of games. You can't make this stuff up (5 fouls on LBJ, with the announcers saying in disbelief, "we've never seen him get this many fouls").
It's not like the old days, when playoff games aired on tape delay at midnight (I recall, as a kid, staying up to watch the Suns play the Lakers in the 80's). There is simply too much money (viewership, sponsorship, etc) involved now to let these teams decide the outcome by themselves. The one thing you can't put your faith in though, as you saw tonight, is the past history of the officiating crew. It worked out beautifully for you in game 4 because that's a game the Heat had to have, but not tonight. I look forward to our discussion on game 6 (and the officiating crew for that game).

Can't wait BB -- the reffing was AMAZING tonight -- just as amazing as game 1 and game 4 -- what a terrible series this has been for fans of "basketball" -- dope if you like gambling on refs though

My thinking was somewhat like yours, but I went with unders,FH and game, figuring that for Ind.to win it would be a low scoring game. Now they got within one with that 4th 1/4 but with the # being low,184 that can happen, which was why I did FH for a bit more, thought about SH over but thought the under for game was going to be easier than it ended, lol.
