How rigged is the NBA and Sports in general??

Ok, so we know vegas makes most of their money by sports bettors like us but how much do you guys think that games are rigged? Of course the players aren't rigging it, but with bad foul calls or no foul calls at all.. refs. seems to always control each game.

I don't know, I am a bookie, I follow Vegas' lines to the T and one of my guys have hit 11 consecutive games against me, including a 4-team parlay for 10 times the wager he normally puts on a single game. He just does not miss all of a sudden!

I am ruined. I am sure he will cash out and disappear after basketball season and either go dump his money to another bookie or casino or spend it all before I ever see a fraction of it.

I don't even have backup cash to take any more wagers for a while now. That parlay hit me really hard. I had to exhaust every penny out of every last credit line accessible, sell my car, some stuff on eBay and live off of cereal for the next month.

He needed to overcome: A 24-point deficit, a 10-point deficit, a 4th quarter 13 point deficit (where his team was at one point in time 12 to 1 against in Vegas' live betting) and the Celtics. Two of his games ended being tied with <20 seconds remaining with the other team dribbling away the clock and hitting a 3-pointer. Of course my team misses, fouls, game over.

There's no sport out there more corrupt than the NBA. The only thing that would be a close second is Italian soccer. The NBA is so corrupt that the league, (David Stern) the referees and the players are all involved. It's like watching professional wrestling and that's probably an insult to professional wrestling.

That's ruff. I know bookies who would've placed the same bet to another bookie to protect his assets. Money management is important. Ship them bets over to another bookie if it can crack you. Just my thoughts. I would like taking bets at some point. That's why i ask bookies what they do in this situation. a 4-team parlay is times 12 around here.

that rough man yeah followmylead bookies usually pass it on to other bookies for that exact same reason that liability...a loss like that ruins you...

but to the point the NBA is rigged 100 pct....here is the thing i dont get..
OKC-Boston-Miami have covered 5 straight games combined.....except for the last OKC game all the money was on these teams....how can vegas be off that bad knowing that money is gonna be on this key market superstar teams....i know if they over adjust they will be hit hard by sharps but the fact that these teams cover 5 times in a row tells me the nba is controlling these games

The technical fouls on OKC to try and win the first half reminded me again that this sport is freaking rigged! LA 42 FT's so they can stay ahead and win the game against OKC.. come on.. Oh man, these playoff games seem to be all scripted.

some naive suckers in here will take no time post NBA is not fixed--- well i can said in advance-- F-OFF

its well domuentated how reffs fix this shiet -- and also some may say high payed athletes only play to win , but how is it that some times he spread is magically covered in time or the over under , and some game results end just where the spread might need to end --- are the odds makers magicians--hell no, everything is well orchestrated, how all of the sudden a 80% FT shooter misses in clutch time, how is it that when its normal for a team to foul when they are down by 2 poss..they magically just quit and doesnt foul when the spread is  covered, or on the other side--how is it that a team might be up by 16-18 pts with 1 min and they begin to foul relentlessly to send the total over ---and i can go on and on and on with situations --- not to mention NBA is so easy to shave pts ---- but hey --its all about to be on the right side of the fix

I get a huge laugh out of these forums from all these alleged rigged and fixing threads. here is a very simple solution: if you believe its rigged and fixed AND that bothers you, then stop betting on it, stop watching it, and stop whinning about it! the only people who proclaim this still is fixed is losers, literally (lost their bets) or metphorically (guys who spend their time complaing about somethine they could easily ignore if they wanted to)

.... and guess what, even if it is still rigged, the games are just as unpredicatable either way.... its funny how all the "rigged" threads come out AFTER the game is over. for once, I would like to see some who thinks the nba is rigged to pick ats winners at better 60% over the course of 40 or 50 games....

...and lastly, if you think the games are rigged, and you can sucessfully pick games better than 57%, who cares?!

@eddothebook - your losses have nothing to do with the nba being "fixed". it has everything to do with you being a fuckin idiot and not capping your players winnings ahead of time. The main advantage "the house" always has is having a much larger bank roll than the player, and thus being able to weather a losing streak without much difficulty. your player winnin 11 in a row

Dallas vs. GSW, first round of the playoffs. EVEN the REF admitted to having rigged that game and series douche bag. I am not complaining about the riggedness, like what shark said, its 50/50 and you just have to be on the right side of the riggedness. Stop being a douche Bob.

Look the bottomline is this: Professional sports in America make way too much money aboveboard to mess with the underworld in any official or semi official capacity.  With that said, as an owner of a medium size company, I will tell you this: wherever human beings and money are involved, corruption ensues. We have snazy terms we use in business for such corruption such as "marketing fees" bird-dog fees" "consulting fees" etc. It is all just kickbacks and curruption to get things to go your way, the same for sports.

The fixing happens in international soccer on a very regular basis. In college basketball enough so that it shows up through statistical analysis, but but in my opinion infrequently in pro sports in this country. Broke atheletes (college basketball players with no shot at making the pros and pro soccer players from dirt poor countries) are one hell of a lot more succeptable than guys with multi million dollar contracts. That said, I ain't no fool, when the line moves ALOT without reason I avoid that game. Some of these atheletes are idiots that end up owing money to dangerous people who ask for favors like making sure the line doesn't cover.

Billy Walters; the man that has rolled probably over a billion dollars in sports wagers over the years and has made multi millions said himself that the only times he has seen corruption was the arizona state point shaving scam back in the 90s and of course donaghy a few years ago... there were the hawaii accusations this year, and i know back in the day the mob used to make yankee players strike out and stuff, but i find most if it is just conspiracy or losing gamblers trying to come up for a reason that they lost other than the fact that they just aren't that good at picking winners

I am a overall winner, and I believe the NBA is manipulated by the refs.  There are too many idiots and big mouths in the NBA to have the whole team in on it, so no I don't think it's a scripted WWF type sport.  Refs can shave / manipulate over 20pts a game.

That said u only have urself to blame.  Write in limits so when someone wants to win a gigantic amount you say no.  I'd be shocked if the dude wasn't ok with a lower limit

hopefully u can come back strong we all need strong legit books

What are the odds that he wins that parlay? Very slim! Passing on his action to another bookie only means less juice for me. Everytime I passed a part of his action over, he lost.

I found a way to get financed shortly. I took some of his plays and since hitting that big parlay, he has lost 3 in a row, including an Live in-play (juiced more). Still, that's only 13% of what he won.

My gut says that he will be betting bigger units now in the upcoming NBA playoff games and chase his high once he loses it. The problem is, he has to lose. How can one lose by betting ML parlays of favorite of -250 or better???
