CELT -3.5 (I know it bumped to -4 but I would take this game at -7 that is how much I like it)
I am from Boston and I know a bit about this team and NO this is not a homer pick and NO I do not wager with my heart.
Why the Celts?
1) They played last night. Why is that a good thing? They have one game under there belt and they are a uniformed team. If this was mid- season, I would stay away but they are fresh, they are hungry, and they are the much better team. Anyone that say this is a let down game is a fool and they clearly don't know KG and Company mentality.
2) Rondo! He is a league of his own when it come to guards. Listen, I know, that there are a few guards better than him i.e.Williams, Paul, but Rondo is a very unique player, and it is hard for other teams to prepare for his style of play. He is the best point guard in the league at taking away the perimeter shot. Clev is going to have to hit the outside shots in order to keep this game close, and they will not accomplish that.
3) This is Clev first game of the year and they are without LB. They are going to be so lost when the shot clock gets down to 5 sec, they are not going to be able to score against the C's. LB bailed them out so many times when the shot clock was running down. Who steps up? Exactly!
4) Call me crazy but this will be like a home game for the C's. Why? The C's just beat the LB, and you don't think they are going to get a stand ovation, you are out of your mind. I actually think that the fans of Clev. will be okay with losing to the C's for that reason alone.
C's win 94-85
Cheers!

Okay, but......during the first two weeks of the '09-10 regular season, the C's twice had to play unrested as road favorites following a home game the night before and both times the Celtics failed miserably in trying to cover against the Nets and Pacers.

Who steps up? Everyone. The Cavs won't be very good this year, but they will become more of a team. I'll bet a few guys on that roster are looking forward to playing larger roles this season. If I were a Cavalier, I'd be long past the LeBron mourning period and instead looking on the bright side of things, knowing that we're all going to get more touches, more shots, and be entrusted with much more responsibility.

I love the Celtics tonight but I do think the Cavs will be motivated. Think about it, the Celtics go out and knock the bogus 3 last night, what better way to stick it to Lebron than getting up for this game and beating the team that just smacked him in the mouth the night before.
That being said, I still love the Celtics tonight, they are the best team in the East and will play in the finals again this year.

There will be no standing ovation for the Celtics tonight in Cleveland. Maybe a scattering of applause when they first come out for warmups, but by tip-off, the crowd will be solidly behind the Cavs players that didn't ditch the franchise this offseason.

Perhaps this is of little or no signifigance, but during the first two weeks of the '08-09 regular season, the Celtics also played twice as unrested road favorites following a home game the night before and also failed miserably in covering both times. They got trounced in Indiana and squeaked out a 5-point overtime victory in Milwaukee as 8.5-point chalk.

I'd agree with you if this were last year's complacent Cavalier team.
However, I love Byron Scott in this spot. Don't get me wrong, he's got his work cut out for him this year. But just as Doc Rivers and the Celts had over a month to gameplan for opening night, Byron Scott had the Cavs prepping for THIS game weeks ago. Do you think Boston once thought about the Cavs before say, midnight last night?
"Back to back" and "letdown" are merely secondary intangibles in this scenerio.
Cavs win straight up.

Byron Scott > Mike Brown. (10 fold)

I remember those games vividly.... but weren't the Celts DD favorites in both of those games? Maybe I am remembering incorrectly, but getting them in a similar spot at -3.5 or -3 or -4 is different than how they were last year in this similar spot

I was on the Celts train yesterday but today this is a no play for me. Being from Boston my Heart wants me to take the Celts BIG. B2B games even at the beginning of the season scares me a little. Everyone has their reasons, the old legs can't do B2B. Maybe so, but I just see Boston coming out a little less intense after last nights battle.
No play here. BOL to all and lets go C's

They were laying 14 to the ultra-hideous Nets and 7.5 to the Pacers, who beat them straight up, 113-104.
