i must say i do like the play, but dont LOVE it..for sure taking the points is the way to go if the number is at a ridiculous +7.....but i personally see the knicks fading away a bit this second half of the season as melo becomes more and more disinterested and thinking about skipping town in the not too distant future.however that scenario isnt entirely relevant to this particular game.but broadly speaking it makes the knicks effort and heart hard to predict from game to game with this question mark over unity continuing to linger...but hey the grizz have never been known as a team to blow anyone away on a consistent basis regardless of how low they can keep an opponent score down...this many points will keep you always in the game i believe if youre backing the knicks....im thinking it looks solid without going crazy about it.....gonna follow tho and wishing you the best of luck obviously
Thanks for the props.
The Knicks failing to make the playoffs is not fundamentally the same thing as the Knicks fading. They could fade, but because it is NY and because they have such a bloated payroll, and because the fans incessantly chatter for better players and production, and because Carmelo needs a reason to stay which prompts Dolan to keep a watchful but passive eye on them, there is enough pressure on them to show up for some games.
I believe this to be one of those games. Why?
1) You cannot go .500 the rest of the way and make the playoffs so it's win now. This is not the same game as the Kings game. Kings were on a losing streak and desperate to snap it before the break. Cousins went down and it helped them by motivating the remaining players. The Knicks likely win if Cousins doesn't get injured! The Knicks SU loss in that game is our gain ATS in this one.
2) This is a symbolic game as it opens the 'second half' and losing it will only heighten the expected end to their season.
3) They need quality wins. Although the Grizz are not top flight western conference talent, no one would deny this to be a quality road win.
4) The Knicks over-perform on the road. Their best stretch of the season came against the came on the Texas trip starting 1-2-14.
They beat the Spurs @ SA 104-99 as 11 point dogs.
They lost @ the Rockets 102-100 but easily covered as double digit dogs.
They beat the Mavs @ Dallas 92-80 as 7 point dogs.
Then they went home and beat the Pistons, Suns, Heat and Sixers
This was all after a 5 game layoff and a losing streak and it started in San Antonio (on the road with a quality win).
That all fits the mold for this Grizzlies game after a layoff that is one day longer.
