And like BB said, there are no cheap fouls. There's a foul on almost every play in the NBA. The refs either call them or they don't. Smaller defenders will always get called because they have to have "active hands" to be effective. You have to reach. You have to swipe. Steph often finds himself in foul trouble for this very reason. I'm not gonna feel bad for a guy who one of his best skill sets is drawing charges. Drawing a charge is a good heads up defensive play but when you start making a career out of it, it becomes a little cheesy.

BB...I see this Dubs in 5 or 6...Raptors missed their opportunity
to go 2-0....especially if KD comes back in the series....

1) Game 6 at OKC. Play saves his bacon by having one of the greatest clutch playoff performances of all time.Kerr did not do garbage to deserve credit for that win. No great adjustments or play calls. In fact, he was shaking his head every time Klay launched a 30 footer. I watched that game 5 times, and Kerr was literally saying no, on, no, yes, yes, yes!

2) Game 6 at Houston. Curry saves his bacon by going off in the 2nd half and scoring 33 points. If Curry does not have a historic 2nd half, Warriors don't win the game.

So no, I'm not impressed with Kerr. No more than I was with KC Jones.

I read your posts after that loss.

It was about not hitting a shot (Curry was hitting the backboard and no rim in the final two minutes).

There was nothing Kerr could do.

Scal, did someone hijack your account? I can't believe you don't recall our conversations. Sure I was disappointed in Curry for missing shots, but most of my ire/frustrations were directed at Kerr. I wrote paragraph after paragraph about his back issues and migraines, and said that he should have stepped aside and the assistants coach. Don't you recall all the articles I posted about speeches he gave to the team about life and health being more important than basketball (in the middle of the finals no less) and how he flew to see his doctors as soon as the finals ended--on that very day! I may have dedicated two sentences to Curry, but all the chapters were on Kerr.

Bb I do remember. You have a lot of good things to say. That is why I log on here to read your posts. And when it all came down to it, after all the soliloquies concerning Kerr, both you and I know that the bottom line is that the series was lost through the Green suspension and the last 4:39 where a 73 win team could barely graze the rim.

Byron Scott or Red Auerbach (polar extremes) could have been on the sidelines for the Warriors and the result would have been similar if not the same: you go to war with who got you there and what got you there and the team totally lost it.

That along with Green pulling an Artest lost them the series. Kerr “adjustments” is quibbling from a hardcore Warriors fan. And I get it and on a deeper level it is a sophisticated conversation. But big picture it really isn’t on the table for meaningful argumentation as to how the series was lost (ie, a minimalist approach of Green + worst shooting stretch of the year at the most crucial time in the most crucial game).

For the most part I agree, but coaches (like players) also cost teams championships:

1) Pop taking Duncan out at the end of game 6 in Miami, in order to match up with the smaller Heat. Nobody on SA could secure a rebound. The rest is history...

2) Doc Rivers, running his starters into the ground in game 7 of the finals in LA, because he refused to trust his bench which had come through for him in previous games. 

3) Pat Riley letting John Starks shoot his team into oblivion in game 7 of the finals. 

I'm sure there are better examples, but you get the point. Coaches, like players, also fail, choke, have brain farts. Kerr certainly did in game 7. Putting Ezili on LBJ was a joke, and he did not fix that mistake until it was too late. The Warriors 7 point lead in the 4th vanished. Poof. Just like that.

There’s two schools of thought on this BB:

You’re of the school that the coach can change the outcome with a revised game plan, and rationally that makes perfect sense.

I’m of the school that there aren’t other options available as the team crumbles and “regrouping” and fending off a comeback is largely futile regardless.

Case in point:

June 4, 2000: Lakers 89, Blazers 84


15 point Blazer lead to start the 4th and Wallace (+ Pippen) could not stop LA from coming back to win.

Adelman could not take Wallace off the floor (he had 30 points) or Pippen in crunch time and the collapse was sealed.

I'm of the believe that players make coaches but there are instances for coaches have to make players, make teams, make legacies. I agree with BB that in an epic scoring drought, in a game 7 for a Championship, at home no less, you have to call a time-out and script a play. As BB mentioned though, he was checked out on that whole season and should've turned the reigns over. He was in so much pain by the time the seasom ended that I remember thinking  "To hell with coaching, is this guy gonna be able to walk. What's his quality of life gonna be?"

Curry couldn’t hit the side of a barn with his shot in the last 5 minites (or anyone else). 

Neither could Rasheed vs. LA in 2000 in the 4th. Neither could the Nets stop the bleeding in 2002 ECF Game 3 vs. the Celtics up 65-39 in the third only to lose the game. Neither could the Clippers in 2015 when they gave up a 19 point lead to the Rockets in Game 6. Shall I go on? I can.

I watched all these games. Time outs and clip boards sound nice. They do little in real life as the team folds like a wet newspaper. When the players on the court are begging to lose, they almost always...lose.

This are all wonderful examples, Scal. But the reason we remember them is because they were such epic meltdowns. I bet for every one of those, there are at least a half dozen examples where the comeback did not work, or the better team did not melt down the stretch because of a great time out, a great pep talk, a great designed play. We just don't remember those because are so much more common!
