Knicks coach resigns.....

it seems carmelo went to the western conference finals in denver and awoke a moribund denver franchise when he came there so he can be all bad!!!!!!!!!!  I was hard on melo the last few weeks but just as hard on d'antoni. He doesnt know what the word defense means! U Cant win in this league without defense. Speedball offense is totally dumb and even dumber when u dont have steve nash running it. He tried to make lin into steve nash which is certainly not even close to being or ever will be.

NBA = DEFENSE

why are the heat and bulls the best teams in the east. Cause they play suffocating defense. James and wade are excellent defenders on top of them being great offensive players. defense wins.

Dallas won last season with great defense against miami

we know spurs won 4 cause of defense.

lakers played very good defense winning 5 rings. celtics. bulls jordan teams with him pippen rodman and harper.

I think we may just have to agree to disagree, camby. Yes, Carmelo got his team to the WCF. He is an elite and talented scorer. The problem is that he destroys all offensive ball movement on a team. He's been doing it for years, I've watched it first hand more times than I can count. On the flip side, you can blame D'Antoni for the lack of defensive schemes maybe, but Carmelo doesn't like defense, doesn't give great effort, and never has. Even worse is Amare. So of course the team is going to stink defensively. Amare hasn't showed desire to rebound the ball since, shit, I dunno, 6-7 years ago in PHX? I watched a ton of his games and he just does not either get it on defense or just doesn't care. I lean towards doesn't care.

Think about how much better your Knicks team would be if they had Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari. They'd be much, much better. To be honest, I'd rather have Gallinari on my team straight up than Carmelo.

Maybe therein lies the problem. I think D'Antoni can only do so much, and he showed that when he has players on the floor who buy in to his system in addition to a competent PG, he can produce successful teams. Don't forget his PHX squad was a suspension and Tim Duncan three pointer away from winning the title (or at the least making the NBA finals) like 5-6 years ago. His system can work and it can be successful -- but your guys gotta buy in, and Carmelo may act like he has, but he's still the ball stopper who doesn't try hard on defense that we've all come to know and love over the years.

touche.  Cant disagree with anything in those posts except  I dont think the team would be better with danilo and chandler.  that team was a marginal playoff team at best and that was with a healthy vibrant amare and not the amare from now who is a shell of his former self. I think amare not playing defense is worse then melo cause he is a power forward. 

Back in the day people used to say the same thing about patrick ewing. When u passed to him the ball would die and everyone would wait for him to do something. Of course back then we had a whole team of defenders who bled defense so it was a different time.

Man they got rid of the main problem, D'Antoni had to go.  Now they gotta fix their offense and learn how to play defense.  I think they might be too far gone, not sure.  They gotta figure out who should be on the floor when.

That was when he cared about winning and was not so much into himself and his promo's... He is nothing more than a tracey mcGrady shoot all day and no D... But [people see 28 ppg and think he must be good. He is bad for any team now...

No one will tell him to his face other then these forums. He's a brotha and so the brotha's on ESPN will cover for him. They wont call him out either. Thats a no-no in their society. And when their is a black coach, what happens... ? Its the GM faults, or the owners for not putting together a good team. They are suppose have two of the top 15 players in the league by their own stance. Should not melo be able to be the leader ? He is paid to be one ?

Most everyone in the league shoots at his percentage and if they took as many shots they would have the PPGs too... Its sickening...

Maybe Miami can move up to the top spot so the Bucks play them in the first round.   The Bucks own the Heat.  1st round upset.

I don't think these people understand, that the only shot the Knicks have is finding a way to get Melo & Amare the ball when they need it, in a better offensive system.  And yeah they gotta play "defense", but this roster wasn't setup for defense.  Man I still think this team is a mess.

Only way you gonna have a chance against the Heat or Bulls is with your superstars playing at a high level in a system that suits them, with a great coach to lead the way.

You ain't winning no championship or beating the Bulls or Heat with the lineup that won all those game against garbage teams.  That lineup was (Lin, Fields, Novak, Chandler, Shumpert, and some other guys, lol.)  I'm not a Knicks fan so I can't damn remember who all they had on the floor with their run.  Anyways, get the right mix of guys and the Knicks can get the 8th or 7th spot and get swept by the big boys.  But atleast you make the playoffs, lol

mike D was a good coach, carmelo and amare's lack of effort this season ruined them, it wasn't the coach.

Serious? Cause Amare flourished in D'Antonio's system for years before his knees went out on him. Hell, he even flourished in NEW YORK before Carmelo got there and it went from being Amare's team (remember him being in the MVP discussions last year before the Carmelo trade went down?) to Melo's team. There is no better offensive system out there than D'Antoni's system when run by a quality PG and guys who buy in. Knicks had neither for a long time, and then when they finally get one of those taken care (the PG), they still have to deal with guys not buying in.

Only chance the Knicks have of beating the Heat or Bulls in a playoff series is hoping that the Heat or Bulls miss their team flights to all the away games... and even then I'm not sure I trust the Knicks to win one of the road games they would need to in order to close the series out.
