This will be short and sweet because this is a game that transcends analysis.
Of course, after giving up 51 points in a quarter the Knicks are now -1 favorites and for god's sake, get the game now before points matter on a final score.
I have to take the Knicks tonight and I don't even have to think about the opponent. I think they'd beat the Heat in Miami tonight.
Something you don't hear but I do because I live in NYC s the media storm that is churning over in this city.
The papers, the radio, the local sports channels, the web are absolutely KILLING them.
Who cares you say? In a connected world, the Knicks hear it and even though they are on the other side of the country, they know the bashing they are taking from every NBA fan and every person with a mic and a keyboard.
That third quarter was like a vaudeville show. Pay a dollar to see the bearded lady and see something you never saw. The grotesque Knicks were behind the red curtain. Take you seats people and grab a bucket to barf in.
It was the worst quarter in Knicks history. It was the best quarter in Laker history.
This quarter was SO BAD, that WILT CHAMBERLIN scored 100 points on the Knicks in 1962 and even in that game, the Knicks didn't give up 51 points in a quarter.
Magic, Kareem, West, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe, Cooper - none of them, NONE scored 51 in a quarter.
Who did it last night?
Chris Kaman
Wesley Johnson
Jordan Hill
Jodie Meeks
Kendall Marshall
Kent Bazemore
Nick Young
Ryan Kelly
Xavier Henry
Robert Sacre!
On top of that, on top of the names I just listed, after scoring 51 points in the third, the Lakers were full court PRESSING TO START THE FOURTH.
D'Antoni will be gone at the end of the year but he made sure he'd leave with a bow on his tenure. This was one big fuc€in bow! And he was even snickering on the sidelines as the beating was administered...by d-leaguers...
Do you know what Phil Jackson, the great ex-Laker, said in the post game press conference?
He left the building before the game ended...to go walk his dog....
It doesn't get any worse than this. The GM would rather pick up dog shi* than watch you play basketball.
That is why the Knicks will win tonight. You can only push a team so far into the watery abyss before they fight and gasp for one last breath.
This game reminds me so much of another game against the Lakers: the Cavs Lakers game where the Lakers won in Cleveland with only 5 guys.
What happened after the Cavs became a laughingstock like the Knicks are now?
They won SIX in a row starting with a win as nine point dogs at Washington and then beat Memphis at home as six point dogs, games the lowly Cavs shouldn't win.
But they did...why? That embarrassment was a jumping off point.
Like the Phil Jackson signing and the subsequent win over the Pacers, you only get one game to capitalize on an event that is unprecedented. Both Jackson coming in and this quarter, this debacle, are events of their own kind.
A word on the Kings. They are coming off a win and Cousins is playing rock solid ball. But they are so bad in other areas, particularly if their shots aren't falling, I see the Knicks overcoming this horrendous non-effort against one of the worst in the West. They will fight but the Knicks will put them away.
The good thing about a B2B is that you win and the Lakers loss doesn't linger. The bad is no rest. The first outweighs the second here.
The Knicks simply can't come out and go down ten right away.
Added bonus: this is a revenge spot from one of the Knicks most embarrassing losses of the season (they've had many that is why it sounds like there is an echo in this thread) in the Jimmer Fredette night at MSG. They remember that.
While most of the above is more entertaining than capping, no simulation or system can effectively cap a team that became an all-time national embarrassment.
They will respond tonight. If they fail to? We take our lumps. The kings are not an option here. Win and erase the embarrassment.
You want to make money in the stock market? Sports gambling is the stock market. Buy teams low and sell high. We are buying and the lowest low tonight.
The table is set. The Kings are the main course. We get a line of -1 which only requires a win and we can't be backdoored. That is ideal.
Someone get me some A1 Sauce.
The pick:
KNICKS -1 over KINGS (3 stars out of 5 just because it's the Knicks and their bench is so nonexistent)
