Laker fans getting Howard does not = RING

I see what you're trying to say but I think you are overestimating Nash's skills a bit. Last year he didn't light it up against any of those guys you mentioned  so I don't think it's going to change another year older at a position that relies mainly on quickness. A better supporting staff should help but I'm not sold. He may be rejuvenated with a title shot but I'll have to see it. Plus despite what he says I'm still going to have to see Kobe is truly willing to let someone else dominate the ball before I'm sold on it. They lose a couple of games I can see him going back to the old kobe who brings it up and jacks it up on his own. 
The Lakers may be able to outscore anyone if Nash is healthy but games like that wear on you and at the end of a long season I still like the youth of OKC in a playoff shootout. It will be interesting though and I'll definitely be paying more attention to LA this year at the start of the season.

Definitely there is no assurance of a ring but they automatically went up to the top 3 teams in the nba.  The pieces are there and its in mike's hands right now to to his thing.

They also added Jodie Meeks so they are getting deeper on the bench, so this Laker team is good enough to win a ring. Love to see Nash win a ring! Its not a given thing to win a title, but the Lakers have put together a solid line up i say. Mitch Kupchak does it again makes the Lakers better after a trade.

and mr potato head cant coach them to a championship...

they have alot of offensive fire power and perhaps they should bring in a more offensively minded coach like d'antonni... put nash back in the d'antonni offense and allow dwight to play amare's roll...

but they still dont match up well with OKC in guarding  westbrook... or durrant...  I think LAL will be in the running for a while, but it west is still OKC's to lose...

2)   LBJ is already rated the #2 player of all time behind MJ.....

Now #1 and #2 above are based on the computers looking @ pts, rebs, assists, steals, blocks, minutes played, point differential when on the floor....etc..etc..etc..

3)  LBJ only one of 3 men to lead team in pts, rebs, assts, steals and blocks in season,,,,,,did it with cavs

folks that thought that was a fluke - last year he led the heat in every thing except blocks....yeah, I know....your favorite player can't even approach that....but lbj is overrated.  

yeah, right

4) he is the fastest and youngest to 5,000 pts...then 10,000 pts, then 15,000 pts....hmmmmm, you finish the math...he will approach Jabbar's all time scoring mark.  believe dat.

5) Accolades....rookie of year....3 time nba mvp.....1 finals mvp...1 scoring title (but is constantly top 3 or 4 in scoring in league every year) ....was 2nd in nba defensive player of year twice.....coaches gave him most votes for all defensive team last year......will have two gold medals (and a bronze)......is approaching David Robinson to be USA olympic basketball all time leading ...we all know he will be or is already...USA basketball all time leader in assists.......

6)  Last year playoff run - he had three "signature games" in the playoffs....Game 4 @ Indiana.....Game 6 @ Boston and ...Game 2 @ OKC......basketball is a team game....but the overrated guy clearly was the alpha dog on  a small miami heat team....with a hurt knee D Wade....and a recovering but banged up  Chris Bosh......folks forget.....the Heat was HURT in the playoffs....but LBJ made folks not talk about that.....

I will stop there - yes, you have your hate moment or moments - but trust me....let's not get into a 'pissing' contest of LBJ being overrated vs. him being a GREAT ONE.....and probably already deemed to be the best SF to ever play the game.

Laker lovers congrats on staying in the card game that is the NBA marathon to a title

I am not a Laker fan....but you guys are all-in @ the card  table.

Now, in my opinion, when you look @ your hand....I still feel the teams you couldn't beat or would struggle with last year - you still will have a problem with this year (maybe even with Denver too - they got Igadaula - but I am not sure about them yet)

But OKC,Miami and the Spurs are not losing any sleep over the lakers.   I do feel they will see LA as more legit than last year.....but LA is not unbeatble...heck, no team is.

I will not go thru why LA is legit and had a great summer.......but will highlight the things that I feel could cripple and probably will hurt their run this year

1)  Mike Brown is overrated - I really think this guy is not what everyone makes him out to be

2)  Will Kobe revert to Kome.....I say yes.    He has to get his 20+ shots a game....and I think that destroys or lets just say....hurts the offense

3)  Nash is not the 2 time mvp nash...he is an older nash.  I watched this guy quite a bit last year.....bad back, slow, and whether folks want to admit it or not - father time was evident when you watched him play -- he had a lot of moments where he looked like NASH ....but then he had just as many more moments where you said.....'oh, ohh....he is looking OLD

4)   Gasol will always be Gasoft.....adding Howard will not change his DNA.....

5)   Howard is an upgrade from Bynum.  But LA went from the #2 Center in the league to the #1 Center in the league......and the gap between the two is mainly due to D12 bringing it every night.    I think Bynum is superior on offense...D12 superior on defense......but Bynum did protect the rim and D12 could score.   YES, I would want D12 over Bynum....BUT....that's like saying I want to bang Beyonce and I let Janet Jackson go.......in the end....it;s an upgrade.....BUT, c'mon man.....not that much of an upgrade.

6)   To me, LA's problem was not defending other folks BIGS....it is defending the wing and the perimeter......Durant, Westbrook, Wade, LBJ.....and Spurs SHOOTERS all over the floor.....and any and all teams will continue to want to run LA....and that simply has not changed....LA is a faster team with D12....but they are still a slow team - particularly the starting 5.

So in the end, I agree with the odds makers...on paper, LA is better......'paper champion maybe'....but that's why they play the games....and once they do......youth, athleticism....speed and quickness and chemistry and health (Nash and Bynum and maybe even Kobe)....will be the factors why Lakers make a run but fall short of even making the finals.

Bynum isn't in LA. :) I agree with you on all except D12. D12 is a beast, like a shaq. And he's at his prime, bynum doesn't like winning no doubt he's talented. Nash you're right he's slow.. But LAL had that okc series, if they executed well down the stretch. With nash around I think they can. Another thing, Kobe is not the same but he's still the 2nd best shooting guard in the history of the NBA. He wants that 6th ring.

LBJ is the greatest player of all time, most talented, most skilled, most athlethic, most God-gifted. He has everything. He can break all the records because he's gifted. But it comes down to this, who can close out games down the stretch? We all know Wade is clutch, but you have nash and kobe on the other side. 2>1. But in a 7 game series with LAKERS HAVING HOMECOURT, I'd say MIAMI IN 6. Whoever gets games 3,4 and 5 at home wins it... Momenteum.

The Lakers just reload so expect them to take a run at Chris Paul next off season he was a Laker once so why not try again. Stern can't stop him from signing there. Howard and Paul together wow i am sure Kobe has been talking to Chris over in London telling him you and Howard together sounds pretty good!

I thought the collective bargaining agreement 'handicapped or limited' teams ability to load up on high salaried players....unless of course those guys take a major pay cut to come together

Of course Laker fans would like to believe this big move will bring them the championship.  On the other hand, opposing fans are letting it be known that this move will not change things in terms of winning a championship.  

Regardless of these personal biases, one thing is for sure.  Bringing Howard to LA makes the Lakers serious contenders for the ring this upcoming season

Kobe stays for 2-3 more seasons.. no more than that...

I am a Laker fan and follower for more than 25 years ..

This does not guarantee them anything at all.. This team is damn good, but they are "old" and injuries could easily mount on this team..

Facts are..If healthy, Lakers get to WCF, after that... Who knows!!

As a life long Laker fan I admit this doesn't guarantee a title but it does put the Lakers in the discussion for one more year.   Only time will tell so everybody on here needs to take their predictions and shove them up their asses.

23 + 14 + 13 + 9 = 66 FGA

Looks like at least 41 games they had 81 or more FGA, so that would leave roughly 15 for the remaining players on bench or to further divide among starters.

Nash can be as slow as molasses next year it will still be a major upgrade to what the Lakers have had past years. Check out Nash's FG %, APG, FT %, and MPG (minutes played per game) when he was in Dallas like a decade ago, it is pretty much identical

I've highlighted some of the relevant stats,  My main point concerning Nash is He will in all likelihood produce which is a major plus when you see that Fisher  produced very little offensively  (in points and assists)      Lakers did not get Nash for defense so ya I understand Westbrook, Rose, etc will torch Nash but the damage will be roughly even cause Nash counteracts with his own production (in points and assists)

4)   Gasol will always be Gasoft.....adding Howard will not change his DNA.....

See Gasol in 2008 or so as well as Gasol in the Olympics

DPOY couple of times and major upgrade in terms of athleticism something Lakers realllyyyy lacked.  Of the current Laker roster Howard might be the most athletic and is under 29.  Bynum has more post moves but he isn't as fast as Howard.   Howard can run the floor and get quick passes from Nash   Bynum  is less fast so you hardly see him running down the floor fast enough to catch or finish at rim like Howard can and has done.

Princeton Offense difficult to defend against lots of screen and roll possibly and almost every team including OKC and Heat should have some trouble or maybe a lot cause

Nash has Gasol (good passing big man), Howard quick and strong (remember Phoenix and Nash and Amare?)     and Kobe  

all three of these  players average 44 at least in FG %  with Howard and Gasol over 50% or so    Nash will love to pass to them.

Don't like this trade one bit.....Big Lakers fan and have not been a fan of Bynum.....that is until I watched him play this past season...Bynum will be a stud for the next 10 years.....and I actually like his post game better than Howard's....now.......What I really like about Bynum...the kid can stand at the line in crunch time and can free throws....Howard will never do that....In fact you'll see hack-a-Howard plenty....Loved the Lakers with Nash-Kobe-Bynum....Now with Nash-Kobe-Howard the team has taken a step back....

Bynum has a better post game and ft % but he is less athletic in terms of being able to run the floor as quick and jump up in the air to block shots kind of like Ibaka.      Lakers need someone athletic in their starting line up,   Bynum isn't as athletic compared to Howard.

Howard also draws more fouls from opponents so that means the opposing teams player are going to get more into foul trouble look at the difference in fouls drawn from teams hack a howard

Hack a howard  =  PUTTING the other team into foul trouble and since Howard gets about twice as much as Bynum  the amount of points they score per game from free throw is about same

Also everyone keeps thinking its   Kobe/Nash/Howard  it is actually
Kobe/Nash/Howard/Pau    it isn't like Lakers traded  Bynum and Gasol for Howard cause they didn't

I am a Lakers fan, but also a realistic NBA fan. I knew Miami was gonna win the championship last season. But I can tell you for a fact that the Lakers are winning a championship this season.
Kobe and Gasol are not in their decline. Kobe can still drop 25+ a game, which he proved last season by losing the scoring race Durant by a fraction of a point. Nash has slowed down, but he is still the smartest player in the NBA and is a great facilitator. He will execute the pick n roll with Gasol and Howard to perfection and wouldn't be surprised if they both average solid double doubles. Gasol played incredibly well in the USA-Spain match. and Howard is the best center overall today. 

Can you tell me how Miami is gonna stop Dwight Howard? If you think about it, Miami didn't face a team with a center better than Roy Hibbert. Indiana was stupid for not having faith in Hibbert and passing him the ball in the post as much. Miami's starting center is freakin Chris Bosh. Even Kobe would successfully back him up in the post.

LeBron and Wade are gonna be tough to guard, but I believe Kobe and MWP can do a decent job to slow them down. We won't resort to double teaming cuz we know how deadly your 3-point shooting can be.

As for our bench, we have Antawn Jamison, who was the 2nd best player for the Cavs last season and can score very easily. We also have Jordan Hill to get boards and play good D. Jodie Meeks is a 3 point threat and so is Steve Blake.

so to finish this off, you're just afraid of what this Lakers team can accomplish. We are winning the championship. I can bet a million dollars today that, unless some sort of virus affects the starting lineup and they all get injured, the Lakers will be the 2012-2013 NBA Champions.
