1. Denver Nuggets -6.5 -- This play is partly motivated by a fade of Utah on the road, the Jazz are like two different teams at home and on the road. I fully expect Denver to come out guns blazing and just think that they have the better squad and better overall depth. I don't think anyone on Utah can guard Carmelo (maybe AK47 could have a few years ago, but not anymore). I expect an 8-9 point win here by Denver, but am not discounting the possibility of a blowout. If Denver shoots the ball well, they should cover this number easily. Teams at the beginning of the season sure seem (based on my non-data based subjective memory) to come out strong in their first few home games as opposed to when they start on the road.
2. Cleveland Cavaliers -5 -- I find it highly unlikely that the Cavs start 0-2, and I think they should be able to dominate Toronto, even on the road. Yes, it's somewhat risky to take a road team on a B2B, but I have no doubt that Cavs players are gonna be pissed about losing to Boston. I expect them to take it out on a constantly disappointing Toronto squad tonight.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder -7.5 -- Young team, bright future, going in the opposite direction of their opponents. Kevin Durant got into a little off-season tiff with Henry Abbott of TrueHoop regarding his +/- numbers (stats don't lie), so I expect him to come out and play angry today. Based on my look at this match-up, OKC has the advantage at the 1, 3, and 4 spots, the 5 spot is a push, and Sacramento has a distinct advantage at the 2. I'll take the Thunder in this spot.
Chalkerrific day, hope the favorites can act like they are in the NFL and roll over their adversaries today.
Best of luck to all, go crush the books!

Good luck today Kapono, I like your thunder bet. It seems kind of low to me but i do think they get the cover. I am on the Under in that game. Cleveland was a monster ATS coming of a straight up loss last year.
Nice looking card, Good work, keep rolling.

mmac -- yeah I really like OKC as well, I expect them to creep up and surprise some people. I definitely like them on their home opener against one of the worst road teams (historically) of the last few years.
44-dimes -- That's my thoughts with Cleveland as well, they were strong ATS coming off a win. I would be shocked if the Cavs don't come out and play with some significant intensity tonight, and I just don't think the Raptors have the talent to hang with them. Turkoglu twisted his ankle a few days ago, not sure if that will have any effect, but nonetheless I expect Turk to somewhat cruise through this season now that he got his big contract $$$.

GL tonight Kap! I like the Thubnder this year as well, however, the number here is a bit scary to me. May play the under tonight as I think the Queens may have some trouble scoring.

AllIn -- thanks for stopping by, you may be right regarding the Kings getting the ball in the basket. However, if they have problems scoring, I think that OKC should be able to cover. If there's one thing that OKC shouldn't have problems doing this year, it's putting the rock in the basket.

Evantorr -- I'm not doubting that Toronto doesn't have talent, I actually like their squad this year. Turkoglu should make them much better, but I just wonder how motivated he will be now that he got his giant contract. The Cavs' bigs will clearly have problems guarding the Bosh/Bargnani combo, but ultimately I think the Cavs have much better wing players, and that is where the game will be decided.

i like the nuggets and the thunder as well too solid picks, however, i must differ with you on the raptors. Bosh and Bargonini could cause problems for the unathletic cavs big men. Hedo caused legit problems for the cavs last postseason, and showed to be a decent on ball defender against kobe and lebron. Throw in a back to back from the cavs, and an opening night crowd for the raptors and im taking the raptors +8.5 (B+2). GL

BOL bro... don't know why that OKC line dropped to -6.5... I couldn't lay $$ on CLE... just seems like a trap line; they own the Raps of late and it's very little to lay coming off a big loss like that.
Saw your Jrue post... he's way too young and will not be able to run that offense for them.

PKK -- I had to bite the bullet and take the kids in their first game, if this was the middle of the season I'd probably lean Sacramento and the points.

metzilla -- all valid points, I just think that the battles on the wings/perimeter is gonna be more important to this game than the battle down low. I could easily be wrong though. We'll find out tonight, that's why I love the NBA -- don't have to wait till the weekend for your plays!
special_k -- Jrue is garbage, any UCLA fan could have told the Sixers to not draft him. He's just not ready yet -- I'm not saying he never will be, but he was nowhere near as good as he was hyped up to be by most people. He's got skills but I never once saw "leadership" or "aggressiveness" from him during UCLA's season last year.
OKC line dropping is slightly
And yes, Mr. Love throws the best outlet passes in the game.

metzilla -- also, buying two points? What does that give you in terms of juice, -150 or something? That sounds like a long term path to disaster to me.

4. Orlando Magic -9.5 -- Orlando is just so deep even without Lewis for the first ten games. I expect Howard, Bass, and Gortat to just crush Philly's big men. In fact, when I look across the board, the only spot that Philly has an advantage at is the 3 spot with Iggy, and he makes a lot of his living by attacking the basket. Not necessarily easy to do with Howard guarding the rim.
