Nice effort last night LAC, way to let the LAL bench smack you around in the 4th quarter. I am still astounded that LAC gave up FORTY ONE points to LAL in the 4Q. Something tells me Doc won't be happy about that
On to Wednesday and some general thoughts:
- I really want to take PHI here +11. I really do. This is a great "spot" for them getting MIA off of the ring ceremony and against one of the East's contenders. But I think that MIA could cruise through this game and win by 15-16 or so with mediocre games by LeBron and Wade. On the flip side, the Sixers should be amped for this game, home opener, tons of young guys who will play hard against the Heat... I think the best play here is a pass.
- Toronto should be much improved this year but I am not in a rush to lay 8 with them. Know how many times last year they were favored by 8 or more in any game? Try twice. I'll pass.
- Brooklyn is intriguing here, I think they will want to get a win for Kidd right off the bat. The vets also know they will need the best seeding possible in this season so I expect them to actually be a pretty solid road team as they are super deep. CLE is a giant enigma for me this year, obviously a big fan of Kyrie but not sold on their other guys yet. Think the Bennett pick was a mistake but we'll see as time goes on. Kyrie v. Williams should be a very fun matchup. I do think that the defense of Brooklyn will be locked in every game solely due to Garnett's influence.
- Washington/Detroit is a pass, too many questions for me with both squads, want to see them play some more games to get a feel for them.
- I like this MIL squad on the whole this year and am down on the Knicks, just think there is a ceiling there when Melo is your best player. MIL should be better than expected, like a lot of their off-season pick ups. Always liked Mayo's game despite him being a Trojan. MIL is surprisingly deep too.
- No real feel on CHA/HOU, line seems about right. Want to see how the CHA pieces fit together with Big Al before playing their games.
- MIN and GSW will be neck and neck this year for my favorite teams to watch list. That being said, not in a rush to lay 9.5 with MIN, even against an ORL team on a B2B. ORL has a nice collection of young talent. I just hope MIN can make it through the season healthy. That's really all I want for my birthday coming up -- 82 games from the Pekovic/Rubio/Love combo. Give me that and I will be happy.
- I'm also a fan of the collection of talent at NOH but not sure how it all fits together. Love Davis and love Anderson. I'm super high on IND (my pick to win it all this year).
- I think ATL should be pretty solid this year, I like Teague a lot and always been a Milsap fan. On the other side, not sure how Calderon and Ellis will fit in with Dirk. I give Carlisle 8 games with Monta before we seem him yank him out of the game after an ill-advised long two.
- SAS continues to be a well oiled machine and MEM may take a step back this year. This game should be a war but I would want more than two possessions to take MEM here. Pass for me.
- Pass on OKC/UTAH, want to see both of these teams play some real games before I start jumping on them. UTAH traditionally tough spot to play, and I hesitate laying 6 with OKC in their first game on the road and with no Westbrook.
- I said I would take POR up to -7.5, so I will definitely be taking them at -5.5. PHX will be really really bad this year, like PHI-level bad. POR should be solid with the additions they had this year. They should win this game by two possession.
- SAC picked up one of my favorite players in the league in Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. He will immediately make them light years better defensively. DEN is going to be tricky this year, should be good at home as always. I expect SAC fans to come out in force for this game as a "welcome back" somewhat to the Kings and as appreciation to Ranadive. DEN has no one who can guard Cousins with any remote level of success.
- GSW will be awesome to watch this year. Are the Lakers deeper than we thought? Really liked what I saw out of Henry and Farmar last night, they showed some nice poise and good overall team ball. GSW laying 12 is a lot but with their 3 point barrage they should be OK here. I'm still going to pass, but I would take a strong look at the GSW TT OVER if it is anything under 115. I think they probably get to 120'ish tonight.
Final card:
1. Brooklyn Nets -3.5 (-110), 1.1 to win 1
2. Milwaukee Bucks +8 (-110), 1.1 to win 1
3. Atlanta Hawks +5.5 (-110), 1.1 to win 1
4. Portland Trailblazers -5.5 (-110), 1.1 to win 1
5. Sacramento Kings -3 (-110), 1.1 to win 1
Good luck everyone today
