What a terrible spot for the Nets tonight. Both teams are in 3 of 4 but the Nets are in a back to back. Last time we saw this was against the Raps and the line was -9 and the Nets accordingly got blown out. Pierce admitted after the game it was the most difficult game of his career and the team admitted there was a ton of emotion and they had nothing early. They only won because of how bad the Celtics are. Coming off an emotional game on a back to back spells doom. Nets are 10-1 to start the New Year best record in the league, last year with PJ they started out 10-1 and lost their next two.
Raps are not going to be with DeMar who is averaging 21+. This is huge but Ross showed how good he can be by scoring 51. Raps are 17-6 ats run and 6-1 ats coming off an ats loss. Blatche did mention how they owe them a loss but not reading too much into it. We saw similar lines with both teams playing at Celtics but against Mavs Nets opened as a fav and Raps opened as a dog when it was thought Dirk was playing. So the oddsmakers feel the Nets are slightly better right now. I mention this because the Raps were -9 against the Nets because of the Nets impossible spot. I expected -4.5 but with Demar out we could see a line north of that.
I have no idea how the Nets can be expected to have anything in the tank tonight.
