The fact of the matter is, the Spurs are a struggling team right now. The absence of Belinelli, Splitter and Mills, creates many problems for Popovich. Popovich knows that he cannot afford to play his starters too many minutes this early in the season. Many of the Spurs are aging veterans. The wear and tear of a long season and too many minutes this early on, could cause these players to deteriorate more rapidly, causing these players to be more prone to injury as the long season moves forward.
Secondly, last night's game was definitely a grueling defensive battle. The Spurs held the Clippers to 85 points and a total of 43 points in the 2nd half. And as anyone knows, playing defence is a lot tougher to do than just playing offence. I can guarantee, the Spurs are wasted after last night's game. They basically used 7 players for most of the night. Belinelli, Splitter and Mills would have come in handy. And now the Spurs face a Golden State team waiting to exact revenge on a team that has beaten them 6 in a row!!!
