It is currently Knicks +4. I'm not sure what the books are thinking here but that translates to the Knicks +2 at home. Why? Both teams are 3-6 and right now, I'd take the Knicks roster solely for a hot Melo over the Pistons roster. I'd think we'd all agree on that.
Books are thinking Knicks and pistons are evenly matched. Pistons have the better roster, but Melo is the best player. This spread is consistent with how these teams have been valued.

Comparing matchups at times maybe useless. Just look at Pistons v Blazers. Their bigs should dominate Freeland and Lopez yet they got totally destroyed by them. Same against Lakers. And who can trust Smith and Jennings with their shot selections?
Josh Smith attempts 5.8 three-pointers per game, that's more than guys like Kevin Martin, Kyle Korver, J.J. Redick and Kevin Durant. And his conversion rate is only less than 30%.

just to chuck my 2 cents worth in scalabrine i would definitely not bet this game(if forced to i take the points just cos its a fairly even matchup given the homecourt advantage)and the reason is very simple...ya just do not know wat the hell to expect from the knicks in terms of either effort or execution.they have been sporadic at absolute best in the short season so far and,as addressed by players recently, have serious problems and are baffled as to how 2 go about fixing them.not being able to figure out why guys arent even playing hard is a major issue and a big red flag.chandler never was a particularly polished or versatile offensive force, but wat he does he does real well(run the floor and catch oops).....but he still does add a lot of starch to the interior defense which is sorely needed.i wud certainly prefer if he was playing.
before the season started i expected the knicks to take a major step backwards from last season and it appears that is the way it is going so far as really i believe, given their roster, that they over-achieved greatly in last years regular season and now there will be a regression to the mean.no doubt for me that carmelo has checked out mentally, even this early on in the piece..i dont care wat the dude says,he got his mind on the future and knows beyond any shadow of a doubt he aint going to the promised land in the big apple.this is a problem with him being your leader and far and away best player...how do you expect your team-mates to go all out wen they may feel you are fleeing in the very near future??...so its just too hit'n'miss for me as to whether this group comes out with the mental fortitude to give a determined, focused, passionate effort which they MUST do to get a win,or come close i should say.they wont get it playing half-arsed or coasting, its gotta be a "statement" type game that they been waiting on for a couple weeks now just to show signs they can snap out of it and have sum hope for the foreseeable future.
shango makes some good points with new york without any doubt looking ahead a bit to pacers re-match which will be big for the knicks and promises to have some spice and also gotta agree that detroits big, talented frontline could really give the knicks soft as jello defense a working over....im not sure how folks in here can definitively say that new york is the better team with the better roster.they basically have 2 quality players(including head-case j.r.) and thats it and by seasons end its possible these 2 squads might be on a similar footing as pistons will make a wee step forwards at the least.
in the end there is nothing to recommend taking a side in this one for me but best of luck on your play anyway....love that you love the game and share thoughts and opinions and take the time to contribute..you too, shango

Did you know he had strep throat that resulted in major weight loss? Probably not.
I'm on and post in this forum everyday and give write-ups for basically every game. You come in once every few weeks to give a bullshitt pick that you pick out of a hat and try to justify for. Who won the only bet we've ever made? Oh, right. That was me. And you couldn't post on here for a month. Keep informing anybody that reads your posts to triple up if I'm on the opposite side. You'll just look like more of a moron than you already are.
Oh god. Strep throat. I read that he said that this week and I was thinking you wouldn't go there to justify your defense of him and BAM, there it is.
Roy Hibbert practically put a leash on him and we are going to attribute that to strep throat. Somewhere MJ is gagging himself from that comment.
If I give 'bullshit' picks, why don't you create a thread asking the forum who they'd care more about if one of us got banned,
Then we'll see all the value you have here.
And you are bragging about winning a bet with a -275 ML favorite??? Boy, you really went out on a limb there!!! LOL.

I just couldn't have you make one of these threads again and try to make these poor innocent covers members tail your pick because you like to write a big title for your thread and make sure to CAPS LOCK your "WRITE UP INSIDE" to try to entice people to come look at your thread. Someone has to stop the madness.
What's funny is the 'poor innocent member' is up quite a bit since the start of the NBA season.
I don't have the time to come on here a lot but when I do I win.
Blazers vs. Suns L
Blazers vs Denver +165 ML W
Pacers vs Nets W
Bills vs. Jets W
And that's all with detailed write ups and research well beyond what you 'scribble in a dinner napkin' threads.
Again, I beg you to create a thread asking posters who they would care more about if one of us got banned today.
The results won't be pretty from those 'poor innocent' posters you so gallantly defend the honor of against me.
Maybe we should start calling you 'Papa Lancelot' for all your covers chivalry.

Too one sided in your writeup, you barely say anything about Detroit and what yo do say is basically negative. You better hope the 3's are raining for the Knicks and that wont be easy on the road, because Detroit should kill them on the boards.
Don't really have enough time to get into Detroit O but yes they will lose the rebounding battle and it won't cost them the game with this number.

Books are thinking Knicks and pistons are evenly matched. Pistons have the better roster, but Melo is the best player. This spread is consistent with how these teams have been valued.
Pistons do not have a better roster top to bottom on paper and are not the better team.
Go look at the Vegas' season win totals to start the year. How much do you think Tyson Chandler moves that number?
The Knicks were almost 50 wins and the Pistons were 41.0. Chandler doesn't move that number almost 9 spots to start the year if he is ruled out for the season. Not even close.

Don't tell Papa that. He sees the words 'Greg Monroe' and he's ALL OVER the pistons because of the Knicks rebounding numbers.

Some of the reasons you stated are exactly why I am on the game. The Knicks dysfunction is getting the Knicks backer 4 here and I say that is a bargain based on my OP.
This is a mini-statement game after a schedule in the last two that went against them heavily.

Only -3.5 now, looks like Knicks backers lowered line a tad
Knicks are always gonna give up about 1 to 1.5 just as a public favorite even in lean years. Public have no reason to love or even know about what kind of team Detroit is.
When it opened at 4, it was eyebrow raising and others apparently agree.
