i would think the only ppl who don't think these games are rigged are the general public some of who are casual sports fans and don't pay close attention to the games like gamblers do
of coarse the goddarn games are rigged... when tim donaghy was charged for illicit conduct it had nothing to do with his ' favourable' officiating, it was the act of him betting on games .. the nba is like the wwf, its purpose is to sell the product by means of entertaining the audience , it is not unlawful for the nba to script every single game if they wanted to, its their league they could do whatever they want
rigging games = make games closer = more dramatic = more entertaining = keep the audience glued to the game
u the nba doesn't care if each game was a blowout? they have the power to enhance public appeal and it works
i honestly can't believe ppl here at covers actually don't believe the games can be rigged .. also notice how in leagues like the nba and nfl players don't show too much distress over playoff loses, its all about the $$, thats all the players care about, thats all the league cares about

I think we can also agree to disagree -- NBA is a hard sport to referee, and there's no need to chalk up poor officiating to a "fix". But keep believing in your conspiracy theories. I'm just shocked that more people aren't rich considering how easy it is to figure it all out.
You're creating a false dichotomy. Tim Donaghy is real, and he purposely influenced the outcome of games for years. Gamblers made sick money taking his plays, and his fellow referees knew what was happening at minimum, and said nothing. Jeff Van Gundy saw what was happening, called it for what it was, and was reprimanded by the league for saying it.
That's not to say the whole league is fixed, or that it's worthless to 'cap games. It's to say that the league's financial considerations come into play in a variety if ways, including rule enforcement. Beyond debate.

I'm not saying they CAN'T be rigged. I think that this dummy Donaghy is evidence of the control and power that referees have over games. What I am disputing is this general idea that floats around frequently that a significant majority of games are fixed or influenced unjustly or in some devious, conspiratorial fashion by the referees and/or the league office.
I do strongly disagree with your idea that the NBA could script every game if they wanted to. Hell, they can't even script ONE game. You know the players would have to be in on it too for that to happen, right? And not just a few players, but ALL of the guys? Even if the scrubs are playing in a game, they generally are playing hard because they don't normally get PT and want to try to be as productive as possible when they do get on the court.
