Who are we taking? We are going with the favorite on the road: The Bulls.
All offseason I was hyped for this game when it was announced. I had really high hopes the Knicks would take this game. But the more I read, the more heard and the more I thought about it, I started disliking the Knicks more and more, so much so I think this game falls outside the spread (which is very reasonable at -4 Bulls).
Main point:
1. The institution of a new offense.
Last year I faded the Suns vs. the Blazers. I lost...badly. Why did I fade them? New coach/new system.
The problem? It was an uptempo run and gun offense that the Blazers were blindsided against.
The result? A blowout.
Compare that to the triangle offense.
This is well known to be the toughest offensive scheme to run.
The reason I say this? Huge learning curve. You need time to adjust.
And how are the Knicks at learning? Poor.
Jr smith - more interested in shoelaces than schemes
Amare - even if he was interested, no lateral movement and sawdust for knees
Melo - it'll take a while to get out of that me-first mindset and pass the ball willingly
Dalembert - No idea how this guy runs in the triangle. He's a square peg in a round hole, and now a square peg in a triangle.
The triangle offense is about motion. Not good for a team known for standing around.
2. Derek fisher
I thought the Knicks lost out in a huge way failing to get Steve Kerr.
Again, this is a rookie coach who was playing against these very players last year that he's coaching now.
To quickly demand their respect and ears is a tall order in game 40, and this is game 1.
Bright lights, big city, MSG...and now Fisher will be on the bench the whole game instead of draining one or two big shots coming off it.
I see him as being overwhelmed. In his 'break the ice' game, he'll be met with a loss.
