It's funny how the forums are full of Raptor fans now. Before the ECF, the only known Raptor fan was the People's Champ. Now there's 30 dudes talking about, "We the North."
toronto is a big time band wagon city. i was a fan until I started betting, or shortly after... which is nearly 3 years ago... I had bucks to win the east at start of playoffs.... eff!!! and im from toronto!!
I get it. It's Canada. Hockey reigns supreme. And obviously the fans are better than they are in Vancouver, because Toronto kept there team and Vancouver didn't. I'm not speaking to the teams fanbase in general, of which i've heard good things about. I'm speaking of this site. I've never heard so many posters all of a sudden claiming Toronto until now. Like I said, Pack is a bro, and one of the few people I would make an effort to meet up with if I were in his town and vice versa, so I knew where he stood. And there are a few others that I knew were from the Toronto area, even if they aren't huge basketball fans but in the last few days, they have been coming out of the woodworks.

Mac, most of it is just fun banter. I can't lie to you, though, as a fan, this title for the Warriors (without KD) would mean everything to me. I think the Raptors are a great challenge, maybe even more than the Bucks, as they were exposed for their lack of experience. Warriors would have beaten the Bucks with ease. Now they get a veteran team, with an all-world player in his prime and at the top of his game. As a warrior fan, if you're not scared, you should be. But I think/hope that the infectious joy Curry plays with and brings to the game, the likes of which we have not seen since Magic Johnson, will triumph over the joyless, cold-blooded, machine-like excellence/precision of Leonard's brand of basketball.
I know you very well BB.
I remember the post you made when KD signed, lamenting the decision to bring him on board. Because everything that the Warriors were (home-grown with a team first mentality) was could be lost by bringing in the second best player in the league at the time.
And you may get a cherry on top of all of this:
Imagine if KD has played his last game in a Warriors uni, and Golden State rides a 10-game winning streak KD-Less to the title.
I mean, you couldn't have scripted an exit interview better for KD (sweep or otherwise), if he sits the entire series and they win, for the fan who wanted the 'pure' Warrior teams of yesteryear.

Scal, as a basketball fan, it would be right up there with the Celtics winning the title over the Lakers in 84, after almost going down 0-2 in the series. And if they win this without KD, it would more than make up for the feeling of devastation when the Warriors lost to the Cavs after being up 3-1.

Of course, as a knowledgable basketball fan and a realist, I will admit that had Durant not come on board, the last couple of years could have been very different for the Warriors. Did they have enough to win the title against the Cavs without Durant? Certainly. But the path to the finals would have been more precarious. OKC would still have KD and Westbrook, creating another formidable opponent, and the possibility of injury would have been higher, simply because with KD in the mix, the workload is less for everybody. (The 80's Celtics, for example, who were not as deep as the Lakers, left a title or two on the table just because they were so banged up/tired by the time the finals rolled around.) That's why the Warriors are in the position they are in now--rested, fresh, and healthy. And I don't think that would be possible, or at least it would be less likely, if KD had not signed on.

Exactly, that is why this storybook ending would be ideal. And you can see Curry, Klay, and ESPECIALLY Draymond relishing in this opportunity to take this down without Durant.
Ah yes, you're Celtics fandome. Speaking of Boston, Buckner died as you know.
It always rubbed me the wrong way that the guy had to move to IOWA to get away from the rabid and classless Boston fans. And there is no one to specifically get their karmic comeuppance for doing that to Buckner as it was the fan mob collective. That's what stinks.
And they and Philly fans are still rated as 1 and 2 most classless fan bases after all these years. It's a good thing you live out west now, although Golden State fans don't have the best reputation from what I hear (at least from Clipper fans I know).

Those are these new booty, transplant, techster, yuppie Golden State fans but yeah, Boston....something else. My dad was still living in Boston when they broke into Bill Russell's house and vandalized it. Even shyt all over the place. This is maybe their greatest player. You figure it's between him and Bird. I remember hearing that story as a kid and being blown away.

I thought it would be Houston to take down Warriors as I have a strong feeling that Ws just don't win the title this year. I guess it's got to be Toronto and it makes logical sense to me. I tend to be a contrarian bettor and I don't think it benefits the League to 1) have the warriors win w/out KD, that to me would dilute KDs value and not serve the League well 2) I don't think it serves the league well to send Warriors over to their new arena in San Fran riding high yet again for another championship, makes more sense to me to have the rich tech season ticket holders cheering for a Ws that have something to prove rather than on their swan song 3) the League has been promoting International NBA for years now and this would be the coup de gras to bust it wide open 4) Ws are not playing good defense this season and are missing 2 starters, if ever there was a time to falter, this'd be it, Ws are vulnerable at home and start a series on the road for once5) the fan base in Toronto is rabid inside and outside the stadium, the fan base in the Bay Area are millennials techies on their phone half the game taking selfies.
I honestly don't see Warriors winning this series and am placing my hard earned loot on Raps b/c of the above reasons. GL BB.

Only snake is Zaza Pachulia. He's the dirtiest player in the league and he's the snake that saved your team from losing to the spurs. Karma's a bi**h. You'll soon see.

Really well thought out, great points! I like the narrative, I really do. In fact, I fear that narrative. You even forgot something. If Raptors win, Leonard likely has to stay in Toronto, which keeps that international team in the mix for the next few years.
But I think the Warriors have enough to overcome the narrative. This is a legacy series. This is for all the marbles in the world. This is the Mount Rushmore series! Win, and you go down as one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. One of the greatest dynasties in sports history. You do all that, and you erase the ghosts of the the 73 win season, and everything that came with it, including the KD signing. There will be no doubt, in anyone's mind, that this was one of the greatest teams ever assembled (even without KD). Now, that's also a damn powerful narrative, and something that actually affects the players taking the court instead of just the big wigs at the NBA from office.
Here is how I see this playing out. Warriors split at Toronto. Warriors Split at GS. Warriors win a monster game 5 and finish this thing in 6, with KD having a Willis Reed moment in game 6.

If you truly believe this than you're an idiot. If you think a series is won in one half, on a sunday morning, when a team has been sitting because they swept, then you're an idiot.

Scal, if you recall, I never lived in Boston. Don't have anything in common with those racist drunks. I grew up watching the Celtics/basketball in Iran. That is how/why I became a C's fan. I grew up in California, and live in California.

You moved from East to West. East being a bit farther than the just the Northeast
No offense to Straight Wagers but I thought that analysis was insane. Particularly point #2 where the Warriors winning the title would be a negative going to San Fran.
Straight this is IT for the Warriors. To many pieces will ride off into the sunset. Even Kerr has inferred this.
But you get an A for creativity.
Ah, Bill Russell’s house floor was defecated on. Classy Boston...

lol we have a bit common...I am half Persian & a Cs fan.
I think everyone is in for a shock though, this Raptors team is unlike anything the Warriors have seen in the West. Just the defensive wall they built on Giannis is proof of that, Nurse is not D'antonio or Stotts, he adjusts and they have good defensive pieces to make it happen.

BB, SCAL, all the heavy hitter. Fantastic spread. Odd, the opening line began Dubs -1. NOw there are +1.5 Can't ignore 23 pounds lighter than the regular season Draymon Green beasting on the slower NBA. Just kidding. Draymon has never looked better. He's the great neutralizer. I see the Dubs showing up for game one. They know what's at stake. Draymon didn't play in the first game. He was a shell of himself playing 24 minutes in the home blowout loss. Tight warriors win/over. The POP/KERR dinner was a great point. Pop don't want to see Kawaii win.
